I made a blatant commercial post in the sponsor forum, but to keep the Moderators off my back, here's the standard "Fishing Report" version. emoPoke
I don't think I've ever known the Chickamauga Lake crappie fishing to get this good, this early. Forgive my French, but we are "balls to the wall."
Drumking gives me grief about trolling (he calls it "cheating), but if you want to put crappie in the boat right now, trolling is THE way to do it. emoGeezer
Saturday and Sunday my clients put 128 keeper crappie in the boat (culled to 7 limits, 105 fish). I'm scared to guess how many short fish and yellow bass we caught. On Saturday me and Jim Thomison actually left biting fish just to go explore new water, or that 128 number would be even higher. emoEek
I shot one video last week, the first day the bite really turned on for me: https://youtu.be/X7gHD1g6Bf4
Here's another video I shot on Sunday: https://youtu.be/ZTNuVBVzZBI
I'm proud to share the technique (for those who don't know it) ... long-line trolling using 6 lb. test line, 1/16th oz. jigs trolled at 0.8 mph (give or take). Pre-spawn crappie are like salmon swimming upstream, they're moving into creeks and sloughs suspended. Most of them are scattered and not orienting to structure, so just putting lots of lures out and "covering water" is the way to catch 'em.
Ten or 11 months out of the year, "spot fishing" structure, docks, etc. is the way to catch crappie. And those who excel at spot fishing will kick my butt. But right now is my time! emoBigsmile
