SATURDAY
Headed out into the tailwaters with Cliff Kinley, his son Conner and grandkids Aziz and Ian. Me and shsimons were tag teaming this trip. We whacked 'em! We caught fish everywhere we went and every way we fished. Sam (a.k.a. The Bait Man) caught some threads and gizzards long before sunrise. That along with shiners and our "go to" catfish bait (chicken breast) could do no wrong. We were on the water nine hours. Me and Sam were wore out puppies when end-of-day finally came. I must add that Sam gave up a sweet spot for one of the BFL anglers. Sam is just that kind of guy. But we went back to it late in the day with our shiners and proceeded to smack multiple spots and Conners biggest smallmouth of the day (and possibly his life). These young men (and their Dad) went home with some memories. We'll let the pictures tell the tale (below).

SUNDAY
I took a "Me Day," (away from guiding, for pay anyway) and headed out with my good friend Randy Holder (CFF's Gulfbum4) to put a few more sac-au-lait in the freezer. My wife is gearing up for a July 4 family fish fry and "special ordered" crappie. It was a tough bite today. I think Kingfish had it right in his report... Willow flies were swarming and I believe the crappie were stuffed full. Stomachs were bulging with willow flies in every crappie I cleaned. Randy and I quit about Noon with 24 keepers. We both lost a couple of BIG crappie. emoBang

I am obligated to report that I am marking this day down on my calendar for posterity. I pulled into one sweet spot right after Drumking left it, telling us the bite had shut down. Randy and I proceeded to catch a dozen keepers there. emoEek It is a rare, rare day when you can catch fish behind DK. emoDance

I was fishing 32nd oz. BG "Blue Thunder," however later in the day Randy made the switch to Electric Chicken and they did seem to like it a lot. I was a bad today and took zero pictures so this is just a fish tale. emoSorry But as you're about to see, I was "picture-took out" from Saturday's trip. That means' life is good and gettin' better every day.

Great job, Richard. It is always good to see my hero on the water. Actually, when we pulled off that spot that you were talking about, the fish were still biting there, but I knew that it is one of your favorite spots, so we moved off to see if the crappie were farther up the bank. They were either not there or full of willow flies. And I was anxious to get to some off shore structure and catch some larger fish than we were catching on the bluff. I found a new spot too. Ssh. It is a secret spot and only 1000 people know about it. emoPoke Thank goodness for down/side scanners and waypoints. When I get back to fishing in a couple more weeks, I will scout this area more thoroughly. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Good job Richard, I think you may have hooked a couple of young fishermen. They will not soon forget this trip. And of course what does a fishing guide do on his day off? GO FISHIING OF COURSE !! Thanks for the report.

Regards, Norman
