As others have posted, several of us volunteered at Chattanooga Christian School this week in a special class dedicated to fishing. Kudos to CCS teacher, Matt Monahan (CFF's redheaddiesel) for creating and coordinating the class.
Included in the course is two mornings on the water fishing. It has been a tough week fishing. Lots of guides had a hard time finding fish (that would bite). But we all hung tough, as did the kids. Everybody caught some fish. But for me the highlight was the final hour of my final day.
Clayton Cornell (CFF's Reliable) was fishing below the Dam with me. I haven't been doing much on shiners, so I didn't buy any. But Clayton brought me some anyway.
With just a short while to fish we started throwing shiners in a pretty well-known sweet spot and almost back-to-back, Matthew and Carter reeled in a pair of beautiful "bookend" bass... Matthew with a 5 lb. largemouth and Carter a 4 lb. smallmouth.
After some tough fishing conditions, it could not have ended any better for me. I know everybody who "guided" these young men and women were richly rewarded by the experience. That means life is good and gettin' better every day!
Footnote: Before anybody goes off half-cocked, we let the youngsters keep the bass. Part of their week-long class is creating special art called Gyotaku. Redheaddiesel is a master Gyotaku artist. Read all about it HERE. The fish won't be mounted, however they will be permanently, and realistically preserved in an amazing piece of art that they'll have for a lifetime. I included a piece of art redheaddiesel created for me last year.
