Brittany Kozak and her fiance, Bryan Sapp, probably get the "far away" award as far as clients who come to Chattanooga just to fish. Some people come to Chattanooga from farther away on business or to vacation and fish while they are here. But for the second time, Bryan and Brittany made the NINE HOUR drive from Pennsylvania just to take advantage of our great fishing.
Saturday was Brittany's birthday. It was not my best day fishing. We were hampered by the howling west wind and we worked hard for our fish. If I counted correctly, we caught a grand total of 18 catfish. Fortunately the majority of them were quality fish, topped by a 42 pound bruiser Brittany whipped on light tackle. That fish hit and we first thought she was hung on the bottom as we drifted downstream. It took me a while to realize that the 10# test line was screaming off her reel FAR faster than we were drifting. I had to crank the i-Pilot into the high-speed, "fierce" mode to try and catch up to that fish before she got spooled. I almost had to crank the big motor.
I'd give anything to have had video of Brittany during that battle. She absolutely freaks out every time she catches a fish, and I thought she was going to have a heart attack on this one. Multiple times she begged me to take the rod. Of course I refused. I honestly thought that in her mental state, there was no way she would manage to land this fish.. and I even her told her that she would never beat this brute. At one point we thought it had hung her up on the bottom, line sitting absolutely dead still. I did take the rod for a second just to confirm the fish was still there. It had just hunkered down in one spot, refusing to move for a minute or two. I wish I could have shot video of the battle, but I was just too busy maneuvering the boat as the big beast took Brittany for a ride. We were all happy campers when she finally brought it to net, but none happier than her. emoToast

Now I'm heading back to the river, which means life really is good and gettin' better every day!
