Spent a LONG day on the river. Started out at daylight shooting photographs for a magazine article of a kayak excursion with folks from Outdoor Chattanooga. BEAUTIFUL morning for pics... sorry, you'll have to wait for May Issue of Chattanooga Magazine to see them. I was NOT in a kayak, BTW.
But after I got through "working," it was time to fish. Started out downriver harassing some of MrWhiskers spaats. It was strange... S. Chick was flowing super muddy. Looked like heavily-creamed coffee. It was muddy all the way down to the Bend and past, however mud stayed mainly on East shore. West shore was pretty clear, That's where I fished. In an hour or two, I caught about a dozen... all on a white Excaliber Fat Free Fry crankbait. Several of the bigger ones are in my freezer right now, in honor of MadBomber.
After that I headed back upstream and messed around with catfish. Only caught two... an 18 lb. blue and an 8 lb. channel. Then about 1 o'clock I went in search of crappie. Found a bunch! Probably caught 30 or 40 although most were shorts... but I scraped out a dozen good keepers, including two slabs (one TARP). Of course stuck a few eater cats throwing the crappie jigs as well. But about 3 o'clock the crappie bite shutdown.
Of course I'm no good at self-portraits, so no pics of me, HOWEVER, I ran across a friend, Tony Smith who had his son, and his grandson, Jade, out on the river. And take a LOOK BELOW at what Jade caught! emoEek emoWorthy Holy Moly! Neither Tony nor I had a scale today ... but we're sure it went six-plus. He caught it on one of those non-imitation shiner lures, otherwise known as live bait). Tony is a man after my own heart. emoBigsmile And that means life is good and gettin' better every day.
