I've been lazy... bookings are slow and I am in a "hunting" frame of mind. But Spur called Saturday night and inspired me to take my brand new truck out on its virgin voyage pulling the boat... and we decided to fish a little as well.

I delayed our start time to closer to "generation time" below the Chick. Which means Labman was already there smackin' fish when we arrived. emoDoh

I told Spur that I thoroughly enjoyed fishing with someone who enjoyed "trash fishing" as much as me. We caught a little of everything (except a smallie or striper). But before he can give me crap, I will divulge that I made Spur crank the big motor once to chase down what I THOUGHT was a striper... which turned out to be an especially mean, hard-running drum. Except for the prime targets, we caught just about everything else.

I was actually wore down and ready to go when Spur talked me into going back after the skippies... and then some gar. I didn't bother breaking out the camera until that point.

And I just had to post a picture of my new truck. I've been a "Ford Man" for most of my life. But this crew-cab, 4x4 Toyota Tacoma with ALL the extras was calling my name.

Figures a UT fan would leave out the most important part. We actually had a wager. Whoever lost the UT FL game had to treat the other to a trip, I won.

Always great time on the water with Richard, hes full of knowledge and even BS sometimes. Um...like the "lets get a late start" who starts late and does well except Sam Simmons?!?! Pulling up to Norman and hearing the tale of the smallie he just caught, then watching him land the striper, I knew we had screwed up. No worries I think, we net some bait, catch a cat and a spot then the water starts and the drum show up. DANGGIT!

The icing on the cake was gar fishing, Richard didnt think much of my tackle choice, but I outfished him on them, so I will gloat while I can. Next time he'll probably wear me out. If you have not targeted these fish before, your missing out. Lots of bites, they fight hard and you get cool pictures.

Love the new truck !! Good to see you guys again, and how do you target gar? I have caught a few by accident, lol. I hate I missed the excitement of "running down the striper" and how it turned into a drum.

Thanks Spur for the silver foley spoons, appreciate the on the water delivery. I will pay you as soon as I get a job.

Enjoyed the report and I can't believe you missed the jump.

At one point on the river he commented that we had yet to break anything. I told him that was the way it works when you fish with a professional, USCG Captain (that would be me). emoBigsmile

And then we got back to my house and he proceeded to break his cooler handle loading it back into his truck. emoDoh

I think the man could tear up an anvil! emoEek

I know where you were fishing, but since it is a secret, I won't tell anybody. What I want to know is what the heck were you guys doing trying to catch the smelliest fish in the lake when there are bass, crappie, stripers, white bass, and other species to fish for? I hope that I never catch another gar. The last one that I caught while crappie fishing cut me in 3 different places as I was trying to take that stinking thing off my crappie jig. emoBigsmile emoGeezer
