My son is wanting a ruger 10/22 he saw at Walmart.Do they make different grades of this gun?
Any body got any opinions of them? Are there better choices in the same $200 price range for hunting squirrels and plinking?

Best semi-auto for the money. I have 2 of them. Wal-Mart is not the best place to purchase though. Believe it or not they can be had for less money most of the time at a mom & pop gun store.

I sold about 1000 of those over my years with Wal-Mart and never once did I have a complaint or return on one of the Ruger 10/22s. For that matter I cannot remember ever having any Ruger of any kind come back. :) They make one heck of a nice gun for the money.emoThumbsup My favorite is the semi-auto Browning but it will be out of that price range.emoRolleyes Jmax

Makes no diference about Walmart now, as most all of them have quit selling guns alltogether. You cannot go wrong with a 10/22, bottom line. For the money, best gun made in any caliber. You can buy "nicer" looking guns, but will pay alot more money. And as been stated already, you can customize your gun any way you want in the future. Buy one before the "other" politicians get back in the White House and ban all guns

Guys, Thanks for the comments on the gun..No thanks for the politcal mythology .Don't start nothing ,won't be nothing.

I have a single shot Marlin 10-22, and I love it for squirrell. Dad has a Ruger Semi, that holds 1 in the barrell and 10 in the clip, and I love shooting that gun, too. Ruger is by far the best for the money, but the Marlins aren't too bad.

The Wal-Mart we have in Trion still sells rifles, shotguns, etc. They don't have that many pistols, though.

I could have sworn that I remember the old Wal-Mart that we had in Summerville, before it became the Super Center in Trion, carrying pistols. If they weren't on sale, then they were put in the displays as decorations. I remember them when I was 6-7, and I will be 25 come Feb.

The only pistols that Wal-Mart in Trion have ever sold are air pistols. They still sell rifles, shotguns and muzzleloaders but no shortguns. They do have pistol ammo.

Wal-Mart, the nation's largest retailer, said yesterday that it would stop selling handguns in its 2,000 stores because its marketing surveys indicated a majority of customers now feel "uncomfortable" shopping for lingerie, sofas, lawn rakes and teddy bears in the same place where revolvers and semiautomatic pistols are stocked.

"They don't want to be around them," said Don Shinkle, a spokesman for Wal-Mart, with headquarters in Bentonville, Ark.

The thread already arrived at it's intended destination. How can it be hijacked.emoScratch
These here forums kind of work like a conversation. Someone starts the talking and as time progresses the subject evolves into related topics. I don't believe there is a thread on this board or any other for that matter that has stayed completely true to title for more than a few posts.

My Dad bought a Ruger 10 / 22 the very first year they were put on the market. Between him, my brother and me we must have put 10,000 rounds thru that gun over the years. The only problem we had was that we had to replace the magazine. I would not hesitate to get one now.
