Bought this slightly used. Been too ill to shoot it yet ! I let my son-in-law range test it. He could not make it hiccup even with very limp wrist and ball or JHP ammo. Flawless & accurate for him and he is trying to trade me any one of his 26 guns for it. I will let y'all know if it range tests good for me. I trade a lot but might wind up keeping this one.

Anyone else have one that has tested it 500 or more rounds?

I have had one for about six months and love it. I've only put about 200 rounds through it but worked like a champ so far. I also have a S&W 1911PD and have had a hard time deciding which one I like better. I just wish they would have made a parkerized version.

Hey Derek,

Good to hear you like the Ruger! I bet that Smith is nice too. If memory serves it has the Scandium-frame right? How about the extractor? is it internal or external?

Gonna keep 'em both I bet :)

Yes, that Ruger is one of the Finest 1911's made right now. For the money probably one of the best IMHO. Being a 2nd gen gunsmith and seeing tons of 1911's and 1911 "style" guns Ruger is one of those companies that usually does it right and with this one they hit it out of the park. It shoots GREAT, it's built RIGHT and handles wonderfully. I think you will find your Ruger 1911 to be a very fine firearm the more rounds you put through it. It already has a great trigger and the right made internals so as you continue to fire more rounds I promise you, you will LOVE this gun more and more.

Great buy! It is IMHO that there are few companies over the years that have continued to strive to maintain their level of quality. Sturm Ruger is one, Sig Sauer is another, and last but not least also Beretta. I have not always liked every gun these manufactures have made especially the earlier Ruger autos but over the years Ruger guns are a few that stand the test of time on quality and on top of that they stand behind what they make.

To mention another company that literally shocked me about how well they stood behind their products is Taurus and they have been building AFFORDABLE firearms for years that are descent quality. I had a guy bring me a large bore, large frame, double action revolver. He was not the original owner but he got this gun that had been run over by a large bulldozer bending the frame and making the gun non functioning as it was bent into a partial U. I was happy to send the gun back for him but made no promises as to how they would react and to my amazement, they sent him a BRAND NEW GUN with the old serial number on it. I have experienced other gun manufacturing companies that go that extra mile too, Cobra, Rohrbaugh, etc. but there just aren't many today that are there to please.

This I am certain of, my friend, you will love your gun in the many years of service that it will survive.

Be well!
G

Thanks Greg! I am even more anxious to get it to the range now. Good to hear about your experience with the other hard working gun makers vying for our business.
I have heard almost no bad reviews on the Ruger and one or two about "rattles in the slide to frame" I absolutely cannot make this one rattle and there is NO perceptive looseness or other Mal-fitting that I can see even with a 10x lens.

Not sure where they stand on production but it would probably be worth the wait. Not much to dislike about a well built American made 1911!

It does indeed have an external extractor and was a little weary of this but has not bothered me in the least so far. I've got around 1500 rounds down the pipe and love it more every time I take it to the range.

Derek, very nice - I haven't heard any bad reviews of problems with the external extractors. In fact it might negate "tuning"problems that sometimes happen on internal types. I like the all black. I personally favor a non-railed 1911- just old fashioned I guess. The rail is great if you want a light and/or laser though. I imagine the scandium frame makes it noticeably lighter.
