I have an 06 tracker crappie pro 40 hp 4 stroke Took it out last week with my son unloaded got loaded into the boat only to find the motor would not trim down. checked all three of my trim switches none would work, well by the grace of god it started to work well fished that day no other problems, took it out twom days ago everything going good then trouble motor started to trim up and down without me using the trim switches, I know it sounds like a short does anybody have any suggestions or has this happened to you? I will be out of the water soon as gun season opens so I do have some time to figure it out. thanks fellas

Sounds like you have a bad trim relay, had it happen to me twice over the years. I was able to purchase the last one at Pep Boys for $11 if I remember right - just take the old one in and see if they can find a match. If you go to a boat dealer you're probably looking at about 3 times that much...

Relay. Had the same thing happen to my 115 Merc a couple of years ago. Easy to replace just make sure you disconnect the battery first. You have two, one for up and one for down. The trick is figuring out which one is bad. Might not be a bad idea to replace both while you are at it for only $25 bucks or so.
