I`ve been looking for an inexpensive pistol for the nitestand. Gander Mtn. has this in 9mm and .40 S&W for 299$ after rebate. Is this a decent pistol for the money?? The price was 399$ when I went by and looked at it friday.

I have a nice little hammerless S&W 38 special thats never been shot (was in father`s collection when he passed) that I want to give to the GF, and have kinda been lookin` for an auto to replace it. Been hunting and shootin` since I was a little kid but never really took up the pistols much.

I won`t be carrying it as a rule and won`t be shootin` any tactical gunrange stuff but will be shootin it some.

What do you gurus think about this one for the price. I like the looks and size ofthe Walthers and Rugers too but a little more than I`m wanting to spend for a nite stand gun.

Advice and thoughts would be appreciated !

THe gun itself it fine overall, the triggers do suck if your used to high-end guns though. They sell millions of them if that tells you anything. I bought one for my brother a few years back, hes never had a pistol before that time and he really likes it. It will hang with any Ruger auto, and half the weight to boot.

Before buying at Gander, I would check with Frontier, they usually have a sale price on Sigmas that beats most everybody in the Knoxville area.

Honest opinion. Spend the extra dough and get something else. The triggers on those are terrible at best. S&W's M&P series is jam up on the other hand. They cost more though. Smith has a new pistol out that is not much more money than the sigma but its alot like the M&P. It is called the SD (self defense). Looks to be really promising.

I've got a 9mm Sigma that I've had for a long time. It shoots ok, but it will jam up on you. Another con, no safety at all, unless you count your finger not pulling the trigger.

I`m guessing that you could have some work done on the trigger...would it be worth the extra cost...or just go ahead and get a better gun to start with??
Davo, I know alot of people leave the chamber empty as a extra safety....does it not have an exposed hammer that can be let down after shucking one in the chamber?? No kids here to worry about...so I`d want one in the chamber.
I`ll go give Frontier a look...I drive by it everyday when I`m working at Kingston....I`m at Bull Run right now but will be back at Kingston in a month or so...
I`ll give the SD a look too !
9MM or 40cal ?? preferences and why ??
Thanks for the info guys.

I dont believe the trigger can be worked on, check with the gunsmith at Forntier to be sure. There is no hammer on a sigma, its setup is exactly like a Glock, wherein it has an internal safty in the trigger. In fact Glock sued them when it was first produced. Most all new polymer guns today are being designed this way.
Sure, more money will get you a better gun, but where do you stop? I assume you started thinking about the Sigma because of the rebate and the final price to you was going to fit your desired cost? The SD series will run you at least $500 when your all said and done, M&P more like $600 or more.

You could do pretty good shoping around for a used Springfield XD. I see them used alot of times for as little as $400. Springfield has the XDm out now and people sell their XD to upgrade. The XDm has some nicer features and a Match grade barrel. But the XD is a fine pistol and is very accurate. As far as caliber, for sure the .40 unless you are worried about recoil. The .40 has a bite to it. I carry a Walther PPS in .40 and it is really snappy. Rough on the wrist after a few rounds.

I carried the S&W Sigma as my duty weapon for 4 years as a Ranger at Harrison Bay. The are tough guns never had a misfire or any problems with mine but they do not like cheap ammo. Most of the problems people had with their weapon was the cheap range ammo. For home defense it is ok but for competition shooting the trigger sucks. When we switched to Glocks the trigger was soooo much better.

I'm a wheel gun guy. I've got some autos, but revolvers are my go to guns. I want to know that when I pull the trigger I will get a bang. As for calibers, I like anything 38 and up. Gotta 44 under my side of the bed, a 38 under hers, and usually carry a 38 - police used them successfully for years. Just my .02

good info guys and I appreciate your help.
I`m still lookin` and trying to learn a little about all of them....before I decide which way to go
Thanks again!

Great reason to get into Frontier Snuff, he has gotten his inventory back to full force after the move and you can hold each of the models in your price range and make a better decision.

Yes, hes on the same exit, but about 1.5 miles down Gallaher Rd on the right side. HUGE new store, you cant miss it. Saw on Facebok last night he got the range occupancy permits and are now shooting.

Like everything else. You get what you pay for. I am sure there are exceptions but every Sigma I have ever seen was a jam-o-matic. If the gun will not fire ANY ammo it is not worth having to protect your family with. If it will not fire when dirty it is not worth having to protect your family with. That said you should look into a Glock. You can get a used Glock for $375-$425 if you shop a bit. Especially if you shop online.

The triggers suck! If you don't mind a used gun GT distributors has a bunch of agency trade ins. I know I saw some glock 22s there for around 300 and beretta 96s for around the same. I would buy used you can get a better gun for around the same price.

Absolutely I forgot all about GT Distributors. They have used Glock 22 40 calibers for $289 with three high capacity magazines.
