Saban going back to LSU???

With a top five recruiting class commited to The Capstone, I seriously doubt it. He did the best he could with Shula's kids, but he can't shake them from their lazy habits and defeatest attitudes that became the norm under Shula. He wants to prove what he can do with his own players and depth at Bama is an issue. Expect to see plenty of freshmen getting on the field next year ...

Regarding LSU - every rumor (and that's just what they are right now) that I've heard says they'll go after Spurrier.

Ya i agree.. if i was to gamble on rumors for the lsu job.. spurrier would be my guess... he's tired of not being able to win any big games at s. carolina... lsu would be a quick fix for that.

Send Fulmer and Chavis to LSU. Then Spurrier can come to UT! SC golf courses aren't any better than ours.

BS

SC golf courses are much better.

i ma not so sure about the "their lazy habits and defeatest attitudes. " that is what good coaches do! it is their job to motivate. He sure had them jacked up for the TN game!

I think the truth is J P wilson is just not as good as everyone thought he was and the recruiting restrictions are still killing AL. no depth at any position except tailback. but Jimmy johns staying in trouble hurt them there too..

I'm betting Spurrier got a membership at Augusta National as part of his package at SC.

Think you're right RR.

For crying out loud, the state of Alabama needs to give Saban a chance. I mean, dang, he had a "winning season" according to Alabama rules; he beat TENNESSEE!

I have new respect for that guy after his comments last week. No, not that silly stuff about Pearl Harbor & 911. ( the press misinterpreted those statements anyway) I'm talking about the straight talk about BAMA fans wanting too much too soon, and expecting him to "sugarcoat it."

I'm just glad to see Mr. 4 million stand up for what is right and not cave to all the crap!

emoScratch -hmm- got off on a tangent there.

MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY OF THE ABOVE COMMENTS:

It was all over the talk shows here in Bama... They say Saban is fed up with the media and the fans already. Blah Blah Blah... folks, "close to the program" says that he has made contact with LSU about his desire to come back and finish his career there.

We'll see, it would be devistating if he left.

It was all over Finebaum, Del Greco, Thom Abraham today... I listen to too much sports talk radio.

Here is a transcript from earlier today:

Transcript:

This may sound crazy. My boss and I both live here in Birmingham, AL. He is an LSU alum with 8 season tickets. I am a UT man with season tickets. He has been in Grand Rapids, Michigan at meetings the last two days. He just called me and asked what they are reporting in Birmingham about Saban. I told him I was not sure what he was talking about.

He said it is beginning to be reported that Les Miles in fact will go home and take the Michigan job...maybe announced after the SEC championship game and he might not coach them in a bowl. Said that was hitting some talk shows in Baton Rouge and he heard some of that talk in Michigan again today.

His brother who is a police officer in Baton Rouge called him and said that a local news agency was reporting that Miles is going to leave and that Saban has made contact with the university expressing a desire to return.

They are "saying" that Saban has told LSU that he would return at his old LSU salary and he would be willing to sign a contract that had a $10 million dollar buyout on it all but assuring them that he would come back to be at LSU for good. He has said that he left LSU to try pro, but he loves the college game and the investment in students. Would like for that to be at LSU if possible.

Never know if any of this is true, but my boss called and asked if it has hit the Birmingham news yet.

I am watching but have not seen anything in print.

Even the casual college football fan knew they were (are) lazy! Jeez fishhead ... your hatred of Alabama has led to some absolutely comical comments in the past 48 hrs. Don't be so biased that you loose any real credibility in what are usually INFORMED conversations about SEC football in here.

They ARE lazy (workouts under Shula were not required and players were not discouraged from wearing their iPods in team meetings) and they DO carry defeatest attitudes (letting LSU slip thru their fingers this year and an 0-8 finish in Nov the past two seasons are good enough reasons ... nevermind 6 straight to Auburn teams that weren't always better). Saban tried to motivate. Most every skill player on that team was suspended at some point this season - for their work ethics. Saban has already said that several current players WILL NOT have their scholarships extended because they can't hack it (your boy Jimmy Johns will likely be one of them). And who said John Parker Wilson was "good?" For the love of all things holy fishhead ... he is all we have ... no one ever labeled him as being "good." Okay, maybe Chavis did, but that's because he failed to motivate (wink, wink) and can't coach a pass rush.

Fact is, Saban may leave tomorrow ... whether it's back to LSU ... to Arkansas ... or to wherever. I can't control that, but my humble opinion is that he won't. He wants more SEC titles and the U of A can deliver ... it already has to the tune of 21 of them and the line forms (well) behind us.

The best thing for Alabama will be when this senior class graduates, and idiots like Simeon Castille, DJ Hall, and Wallace Gillberry are off the team. My brother (Dprice) is on the weight training staff at Alabama and he said they are the laziest sacks he's ever seen. Folks with those attitudes can be a sickness on any team, i.e. KELLEY "THE FUTURE" WASHINGTON, FREDDIE MILONS... etc....

I do agree that these players do have a defeatest attitude and that has effected them.

Crazysmom,

I don't feel that the press abused Saban's 911 and Pearl Harbor quote. I thought it was extremely disgusting to even compare football to those tragic events. Nick Saban needs to realize that all his young men walked away from that football game ALIVE. I'm sure he didn't premeditate those comments, and it just rolled off the tounge, but it was a TERRIBLE comparison. Never should anyone compare such a petty issue like football to something of that magnitude.

oh i heard plenty of folks including many calling into Sport Talk and Finebaum that said JPW would better than Brodie Croyle. He did have a pretty good year last year but tanked terrible this year (except against TN.) I actually do not hate Alabama, most of my family is from there. I have actually felt sorry for them the last several years.

No doubt there are players that on every team that are lazy, but i still say good coaches can motivate players out of bad habits. Fulmer USED to be great at it. Spurrier is GREAT at it, RICHT may be the best at it (most of his team were thugs when in went to GA). If Saban can not motivate them he should cut them loose. (Lord knows Fulmer gave LeMarcus Smoker plenty of chances before he cut him.)

And I still say that depth is what is killing AL. Saban has maybe 10 real starters on each side of the ball. one of those goes down and there is noone behind him to take his place. There were times i thought i could play G better than some of the back ups that had to fill in (I think it was the LSU game.) Depth won the game for LSU or rather lose the game for AL. LSU has 40 guys who start for any team in America. They are loaded.
It is going to take maybe 2 or 3 more solid recruiting classes to get them back to the top year in and year out. WIth or without Saban.

No doubt there were TOO MANY AL fans thought Saban would have a conference championship this year. He tried to warn everyone in his first press conference it was goign to take time. who would blame him for wanting to leave. Fact is Al is one of the toughest places to coach, maybe second to ND. you do not win and fans turn on you fast. Not that they do not everywhere else too (Fulmer) but expectations are high at AL, maybe too high.

I seriously doubt that Ole Bear could win a conference championship every year now days in this conference.

BPrice- I agree with you- I was merely making the distinction between those comments and the "right on" statements he made re: Bama's football program.

Oh and BTW, I don't HATE any other team either...

I just LOVE TENNESSEE

Rumors! Don't you just love them! Regarding Fullmer and Chavis, I just wish that some college team or high school team would offer Chavis a job. You can tell just how good a coach is by the number of offers that he gets and Chavis hasn't had an offer to go anywhere after he turned down a job with the Colts several years ago. Please, somebody out there offer that man a job. He is a great coach. Great Coach. Great Coach. Is anyone hearing me?

I don't dislike any college team in the SEC except Vanderbilt. I even pull for Alabama when they play Vandy.
