I got out early this AM to catch up on the Crappie fishing. I had a limit in an hour or less. Fished a while longer and finished up with 24 keepers that I culled down to 15 and about 20+ throwback crappie. Add about 4 or 5 bluegill and 1 yellow bass to that total to finish out my day and got back home while it was still morning.

I caught the majority on panfish stingers and a few on panfish assassins. White/chartreuse, pink/chartreuse, pink/white, and a couple on orange/chartreuse. Most of the bites this AM were visual. I didn't feel 90% of the bites, just watched my line tighten ever so slightly and set the hook. Sometimes the line would just start moving off at a 90 degree angle and I would set the hook. I had more than my share pull off this morning for some unknown reason. I think most of the fish came from about 6 feet of water and most were males.

I saw Gator out there with his neighbor. They were doing very good too. Hope Gator posts his report. He did catch another yellow perch that he said was either 10 or 10.5 inches long. I saw it from a distance and it was a good-un. emoGeezer

  Good job DK!

DK, are you thinking that some of the fish are bedding up out there yet or is it still prespawn with the fish that you are catching? Can you tell the difference between a male crappie and a female that has spawned out already?

Some of the fish are spawning right now. A few females that I kept are about 1/2 spawned out. The eggs get real grainy when they are laying them. Not the bright yellow with blood streaks in them that are typical of pre spawn eggs. Yes, I can tell the difference in the males and females after spawning. I did really good in biology in school. emoUpsmile emoUpsmile Actually, a lot of females have just a tiny bit of eggs left that didn't quite make it to term. The sperm sack is a dead giveaway for the males.

Polo, I expect that next week it will be great fishing and then a steep decline after that as most will have spawned out down here. There are later spawners upstream from us. emoGeezer
