Caught some wind the other day that a few committee members thought i was WAY out of line with holding my ground with Tom at the last CFF event.

I would like to hear that from whom ever, here! Not from the man I worked it out with. We both displayed a bit of irritability that day. What really sucks is that his partner, Gary, LOOKED at the weight then joined in the protest...Doesn't matter. What does matter to me is that its PM'd, posted here, or a call made to myself.

We worked hard to put together what everyone says is a great trail to fish. I may have the tendency to run things tight and hold my ground but there has to be some of that when needed.

Thanks!

It wasnt me which would be the obvious person but I would like to voice my opinion. It could have been handled better by both of you .Tom should not have bowed up he should have immediately walked over and talked off to the side as should as you instead of yelling over the parking lot in front of everyone.Tom was wrong and you were right .Im glad everything is cool but it could have been handled more descreatly.

Your exactly right Damon and I appreciate you saying that. Tom and I are cool and yes, we both should have done it differently. Live and Learn.emoThumbsup

Im not living in a glass house throwing rocks though.Last year I calculated a dead fish penalty wrong on a team that should have got third instead of fourth. After the tx he came up to me very nice and we worked it out .

I didn't think you were out of line at all Billy. I thought you handled it the best way possible given the way he protested. He called YOU out on a mistake that you DIDN'T make. I'm just glad he still had his fish in the boat so the correct outcome could be proven. Rob and I were recording the weights EXACTLY as you were announcing them, and I will stand by that ALL day long.

Wasn't me. With the other guys calling the situation out in front of everyone like they did, I thought it was proportionate. "Put 'em up!"

Thanks guys...yet I do agree with Damon. Things should have been handled on my end, alittle softer. Maybe I should have walked up and discussed it with a few other commitee members.

I'm just glad that you guys resolved it quickly. Weigh-ins can be stessful because you want to do them precisely. When you know that you performed an accurate weigh-in and its contested, your cred is questioned. We all understand.

Billy, I didn't think you were out of line at all, but it could have gotten that way. If a man calls you out publicly, then you have a right to respond publicly. You handled it firmly and quickly and it was over. Had it been me, I might have invited himout of the safety of his boat, to discuss itif he had any questions. Gary knew what the weight was, so in my opinion, they were both out of line. Next!!

As far as someone on the committee speaking out against you, regarding this issue, we need to hear the reasoning from that person. Maybe the rest of us are missing something we need to be aware of for future reference. Al

If thats the way everyone thinks a tx director/committee should act then I guess this isnt for me two wrongs dont make a right .I thought I said TOM WAS WRONG BILLY WAS RIGHT. When you put yourself in a position to where alot of people look for you to be proffesional and be the better man and your not that dosent look good.Take my name off the committee and this committee forum because I dont share the same feeling that you do.

No Damon...your an asset to us and especially to myself. I dont want to see you head out. Its a healthy conversation and I do agree with you on the way it should have been handled. My rule at work...unless THEY want to break it is.Praise in public, scold in private. Tom and I should have done it differently. Give me a call .. 285-7649
Thanks!!

There is obviously something missing here and there is no telling what was said behind the scene, but the bottom line is it's not that big a deal. We certainly don't need this to come between any of us. Damon, you are well respected on this committee and your opinion surely matters and you don't need to withdraw from the committee. We do need to be unified in our decisions, but that doesn't mean we are always going to agree on everything. Let's get past this and move on, we have a good thing going and like you said, Damon, you have to run it with a firm hand.

Whoa Damon, I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you. I believe we all agree it could have been handled a little better, but given the circumstances of how this protest was made in a rather rude manner, I thought it was handled properly. Now had they came up calmy and said "Hey I may have heard you wrong, do you mind reweighing my fish?", then this is a non-issue and a whole different ballgame. But seeing as he yelled from his boat that he was getting screwed by Billy, I think it was handled in due form.

I know I personally think you bring a lot of tournament experience to this committee Damon and I don't want to see you take yourself out. I don't think anyone else does either. This is just something that is going to happen from time to time. The best thing we can do is learn from it and prepare for the next time it arises.

The problem is going to be when we have this kind of misunderstanding again, but the team has already released their fish. Maybe we need to make the top 5 bags hold onto their fish until all weights are recorded...??

You DO NOT want to be reweighing peoples fish. What if a team weighs their fish and 15 minutes later wants a reweigh, then they weigh 2 pounds more?

I think one of the team members needs to see the digital display and acknowledge it. Wish we had a large display that was pointed towards the anglers standing around in front of the weigh table.

We dont need to do that...we just need to be sure the weight called is shown and agreed upon..recorded proper. If we tell the top five to hold them we are asking alot of people to hold off when these fish need put back...not to mention, it sends a message that we have or could make a mistake.

Yell out the weight and show the angler it at the scales...record it and the member recording , repeat it.

Just about everyone that weighed in, seen thier weight and knodded in agreement. I try to make sure of that.

Good call Flipper :)

When I conducted the weigh-in at Guntersville, no participant saw the weight on the scale when I called it out. Thankfully, no one seemed to have a problem with that or at least voiced no opinion. Hindsight is 20-20. Allowing a participant to see his weight would reduce controversy.
