What kind weighing scales do you folks use, and are you using any kind of culling system to help keep up with fish during a tourney?
I've got at Rapala Proguide scale, and it's been trouble as long as I've had it... hard to get it to turn on, weighs different every time it does come on.... I used to use a Normark years ago until it kicked the bucket.... I'm thinking about getting the Xtools Grip-N-Weigh from BPS : http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/s..._89336_100011004_100000000_100011000_100-11-4

Wondering if this would be easier than trying to keep an active fish hanging on the hook of the other scales.

In Friday's tourney out of Wolftever, we wasted a lot of time trying to cull fish... I didn't think we should try to mark fish, thinking that culling with only 3 fish limit wouldn't be hard... well, we wound up wasting too much time that evening trying to sort through fish with a scale that was inaccurate and hard to turn on emoBang

How do you guys streamline weighing and culling?

thx,
TAz

If you`re trying to cull fish that close to the same size...a balance beam type device makes it quick and easy.

I made one using 1/2 inch stainless steel instrument tubing. You could use a number of different materials but the SS tubing was readily available at work. I found the center by balancing it on my finger and drilled a hole big enough to put a oval metal shower curtain ring . Made equal and good accurate measuments to each end of about a 15 inch length of tubing..and drilled another hole in each end......leaving enough material beyond the holes to grind for adjustment. Install your rings and/or hooks and then grind the heavy end till it balances.
Hook up the fish in question and cull `em quick !

Even the Xtools are suspect at times. Fresh batteries make a difference also and as Snuffy said a good culling beam will help you out.

Thanx for the info .... new scales, and a culling beam on the way... but, the way my luck goes.... once I get these, I won't catch enough fish to have to use them... I hope they age well ... lol

I dont own a scale just the beams. I dont trust scales and they all weigh diiferent. just keep the beam buttoned to your smallest fish, that way you know which is your smallest.
