Had a fine day with Jody Smith, his Dad, Henry, and Uncle "D"from Canton, GA. They went home with a cooler full of blues (were wishing they'd brought a bigger one)... and we released a BUNCH! We didn't count... Jody figured we caught 30-to-40 fish. Started fishing about 7:30 and it was slow... no, not "slow. The bite in and around Harrison Bluff area was nonexistent... not so much as a bump! I was getting worried. emoConfused But the fish downlake were on... and kept getting better as the day wore on (and generation increased). All on CB. I took some of DHaun's magic bait, but CB was working so well I just never could bring myself to "pop the top" on the Spam. But obviously, it'll keep. Did pick up one nice fish at Harrison Bluff in the afternoon... didn't fish it long. The sun and the HUGE cruisers whipped us. Not going to fish for a while... going to deer hunt next week. Hey Liveliner... where's my deer report. How'd ya'll do?

Good report, Richard. I'm going back to Crappie fishing. I have enough catfish for the next 2 meetings. Be out there somewhere Tuesday. I'll be by myself unless someone is with me. What I plan on doing is a lot of scouting with just a little fishing thrown in for good measure.emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Good luck... hope you find 'em. Water temps have cooled some... but this afternoon surface was still 80 degrees.

From the looks of those guys and catching 30 to 40 fish you will have some repeat customers. Good job Richard.

'Looks like they were having a blast! Good numbers of fish and lots for the table. What is the biggest that you usually keep to eat Rsimms?

I leave it up to clients... and it is usually limited by what size cooler they bring. I don't have a livewell for catfish... I just ask them to bring whatever cooler they intend to take fish home in. We put it on boat and "fill 'er up." They frequently bring dinky little coolers, not realizing how fast it'll fill up when you put a few 5-10 pound cats in it. Typically won't keep any over 8 or 10 pounds. However, I don't really think it matters as far as eating quality... I think the big one's eat just as good as the small ones, provided they are prepared properly. I think a lot of people filet the big ones and the filets are so thick, they won't cook properly. After cooking, the inside is still a little too "mushy (i.e. raw)" and that's why people say "the big ones don't taste good." But I tell folks that if you clean a big one.... "filet your filets." In other words split those thick filets in half (or even thirds), so they are thin enough to cook evenly through and through. Do that and I don't think you'd ever notice difference between big ones and little ones. However, I still encourage folks to release all big fish... and they are have always been happy to oblige.

Hey Richard. I posted it on that same thread in Hunting Forum.
