JSV and I headed out to Lincoln county about 4:15 this morning and as normal we had a great time with the smokepole. I layed the first down around 8:30 this morning and another one around 10:30 or so. I saw 6 and JSV saw approximately 30+ but unfortunately he passed on several shots first thing this morning and saw many throughout the morning but just couldn't get them in smokepole range. Found both of mine however not a very good blood trail on either to follow. Seems as though that is typical with a mzldr or at least everyone I have shot has been. Unfortuanely I didn't take the first pic but hopefully will have some pics from an upcoming shotgun hunt in Illinois soon.

Congrats....what type of bullet are you using? I use the Powerbelt bullets and they leave a GOOD blood trail. GLad ya found em....as ole Uncle Ted NUgent says....back strap fever baby!!!!

Powerbelts in .270 grain. Both deer were hit perfect, right behind the shoulder. One did leave a descent blood trail until she got in a cedar thicket and the other, nothing until about 10 yards from where she bit the dust.

congrats on the meat!
as for the blood trails, i have heard from many many people and read on different forums that the powerbelts perform poorly on game and leave little to no blood trails. i have also seen this from personal experience. i would not give you a nickel for a thousand of those things. depending on what type of mz you shoot and the rifling twist rate, try some shockwaves by t/c or hornady's sst. the powerbelts are easy to load and push down the barrel for most, and usually shoot accurately, hence their appeal. i shoot 1.5" groups at 100 yards with my t/c shockwaves and my t/c omega, and they perform great on deer.

Power Belt bullets are by far the best selling bullets available for muzzleloaders. If they were no good as you say cooper I think the word would have gotten out several years ago. I have seen deer shot with 300 Win mags that left very little blood trail. Sometimes it just happens. When I was processing deer I have seen deer insides that were shot with nearly every caliber and bullet style out there and bullets do some strange things. Obviously the PowerBelts did their job here as tndoe found both her deer.

I got turned on to the powerbelt aerotips 3 or 4 years ago watching a tv hunting show. Killed several deer with them and i had a problem with blood trail as well. But they say you can shoot up to 200 yards acurately. I sight mine in at 100 yards and get a 2 inch group. But for acuracy and impact power, you cant beat em.
