i have been trying to learn how to fish offshore structure and have not had much luck.i went out and purcased a new sonar/gps thinking that would make it a little easier, well it hasnt.i like the unit i can find my way back to humps ditches what ever i want to revisit. now i need to get to locating bass and catching them.anyway my question is,what is the best search bait for fishing offshore structure.

i like a c rig or a football jig you can feel the contour of the bottom and fish it slow , you can use your sonar to look for bait also ,usually if you find clouds of bait on your sonar and feel rough stuff on bottom ,stumps for examble you will get bit the fish use the cover as ambush points . find the right combo of these things and sit back and wind more than likely youll git bit . hope this helps

I love to fish creek channels especially the inside bends of the creek. A lot of creeks, especially on Guntersville still have a lot big stumps left on them. Do you have the map chips for your Gps? I look at the contour to find offshore points that have good dropoffs.
If I got fish located I love the jig and slowrolling a spinner-bait but when searching you can cover water faster with a big crankbait. Keep at it, when you find them deep you can sure catch a big sack.

DT-16, DD-22, 30+

All Crankbaits you pick the color. Troll them or cast them. I like trolling them alot easier on the wrist.

Get a plug knocker, that thing will pay for itself in the first two hang ups.
