As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his
car phone rang. Answering, he heard his wife's voice
urgently warning him, 'Herman, I just heard on the
news that there's a car going the wrong way on
Interstate 77. Please be careful!' 'Heck,' said
Herman, 'It's not just one car. It's hundreds of
them!'

thats good
but on a serious note, something has got to be done about this. I have come close to being hit by several elderly (probably legally blind/deaf drivers), but what recently really pissed me off happened yesterday. My beautiful bride just about got slammed by an elderly woman who just completely ran a light. My wife was doing about 55 and had to swerve to miss her. She missed the old lady, lost control, and spun in a complete circle all w/o hitting the curbs or guardrails. Since traffic was heavy and there were cars behind her, she had to just continue on. If it had been wet, or had there been other cars next to her, things would have been real ugly.
The good news: she did get a few thumbs up and incredulous looks from impressed drivers @ the next light.

hehe... fitting

I was almost rear ended not once, but twice the other day by a teen female. The second time I pulled into a driveway to avoid an impact. I watched as she drove by, laughing with her passenger and talking on her phone. Bad drivers come in all ages and genders.

Very true, and to be honest teens (and young drivers in general) are definitely more reckless and accident prone as a group. I'm talking about getting seniors' VISION and HEARING checked. I have watched elderly folks sit @ a light, sitting through entire cycles, because they just watch to see what the car in front of them is doing. The reverse I also have seen---old folks just cruising through a completely red light because the car in front of them went through it.
Personally, I believe personal freedom is more important than just about anything in our society. When I hear about the government trying to dictate when and where people can smoke, where people can live, what they can and cannot say I go crazy. Less government is better, to me. That said, taking away someones privilege to drive is a significant proposal. This issue, however, is purely about public safety. These drivers that are legally blind&/deaf are a gamble w/ health/life. These accidents do happen.
