No time on water, so the usual junk fishing day. Headed up to ski slough Hoping for some schoolers. Nada, Mike had a fish swipe at his frog( Rage Shad), and missed the bait. I backed him up and caught it on a small Academy Popping frog. 1st fist, 1st keeper. We worked around the grass line with a frog, and noticed there wasn’t any bait. Caught a few dink’s on shakeyhead and a I missed a few frog swipes. He wanted to go back and work it again, and within a few casts in the exact location the first keeper came from, booooom a good fish! I thought 4-4.5# but we were pleasantly surprised at the weigh in(5.17#). Great start! Getting bites and catching some fish. Well, I wish there was more to the story.......but that’s it. We ran and ran. Anything from docks, to deep grass, to lay downs and just couldn’t put anything together. Caught a few small fish here and there, but that was it for keepers.
Day 1 6-8 fish. 2 keepers for 7.31#both keepers on frogs. Other fish caught on smaller Sammy, shakeyhead 1/16 with green pumpkin red flake) strike king rage shad-shad color(I love them) and small academy popping frog white bottom.
Day 2 Nickasuck
My first wedding anniversary and my wife wasn’t too happy I was fishing.(fixed it). Ran up about a half mile from ramp on the right, and started frogging. Wind was pretty rough the first hour or so. Just like the day before, same frogs, we boated 2 non keepers pretty quickly. Thought ok, we are getting bites so that’s all I cared about. Wellllllllll, that was about it for day 2. Went to Mullins cove to throw some chatterbaits and it’s just about closed up with grass. That’s when we mailed it in. We sat there talking about life and laughed it off. A boat pulled up and we started chatting about the tournament trail. Feel bad for not getting their names. We were talking about how bad we are at fishing they jokingly offered us a 4# and 6# if we wanted them. We passed, and he let us know he was just kidding anyway we decide to run back up to where we started to try to spark an interest in fishing today, caught a few more slicks on frogs and that was it. We were done. On a funny note, when we were riding back up to ramp(from Mullins). There were 3 paddle boarders in the middle of the channel. There was a boat coming down on the right side of them, we took the left close to the bank. I guess they didn’t like it because they let us know we were #1. If it was someone on here, we were as far left as we could go, try not to be in the middle of a bottlenecked channel I let them know they were #1 with us as well, not a proud moment. Day 2 was a bust, so it was time to go see my beautiful wife.
Day 2 6 -7 fish frogs and Sammy
Thanks Mike Gregory, I’m not sure how many years ago we started chatting on CFF, but I’m glad we have became such good friends. Your one of the best dudes I’ve ever met. Thanks for letting me tag along
It’s been a blast, but I’m hanging up the uncompetitive rods. I have met a lot of great people on here, and now have some of the best friends anyone could want. See ya on the water and congrats to the winners! We have a ton of local fishing events benefiting children, veterans, and fellow man in need. Please donate your time to these events. It’s more rewarding than any check you will ever receive. SHAKEYHEAD4LIFE
