Asked Tommy if he wanted to fish the tourney since we needed some practice for our club tourney next week, and was wanting to see all my old friends. Started down south to avoid traffic, started with the rig, nada...we moved over to some docks and he hooks something big on his first pitch, goes to adjust his drag and it pulled off. Moved down some more docks and I hooked a NICE plastic chair(was at least 8 lbs). Tommy was nice enough to grab it and release it for me. Shortly after, he puts the first in the boat on a jig. I miss one under a dock on a shakey head. We fished the shallows in the back of the cove looking for some bedding bass and didnt see or catch anything there. Moved back to the original dock where he had his pull off, I toss a shakey under the dock and BBBBBBAAABOOOOOMMMMMM, set the hook and ....snap....tears followed. Missed one on a rig and we struggled the rest of the day. Went back to the weigh in and then got back in the boat and headed to Amigos on the river. Was great to see all my old CFF buddies.
Round #2-Crappie
We were idling around looking for some structure to mark and he sidescanned a brush pile loaded with crappie. Of course all we have is bass gear, so we tie up some Lake Fork mini shads or whatever those are called and tossed at the mark...1st cast=crappie......uh oh...its on. We stayed there for 3 hours and boated 118(correct count unknown because we didnt start keeping count until later, guessing around 140). I had a sunburn that would rival David Hasselhoff so after 14 hours on the water, we called it a day.
Round #3-Crappie
Talked him into going on Sunday and knew I had to make an appearance at the Crappie Benefit tourney, didnt get to the water until around 12:00 and we just started marking schools of fish and started looking for more structure. Caught a few here and there, and by the time I looked at my phone it was 1:45, missed the weigh in. Dang it, anyway we were tired of marking fish and idled by the spot from the previous day to see if there were any fish left on it...Yup, started off fast and furious again but I noticed the sky changing and temp dropping, and then the rain. I noticed this because of the shorts and short sleeve shirt I was wearing. We used pretty much the same colors from the day before, Silver/Gray Lake Fork, and Panfish Assassin Tiny shad same color. 1/16-1/8 oz jig heads and anywhere from 2-6 ft were wacking them. It was easier this day on lighter gear, unlike our previous day with heavier spinning gear and 10#+ Fluoro. Ended up with 51 in a couple hours. Headed back to the ramp in Hurricane Hugo, I must say it was "brisk" to say the least. Pretty sure my berries didnt drop until around 10 pm that night. Anyway a lot of random stuff about nothing, I will post some pictures of my "fishing bingo" catches lately!
Fish Bingo=Weird Snags and Catches on the water.
