Sgt Jace Thorn, 29yrs old and my stepson who I helped raise since he was 13, left again Thursday for a tour overseas. He's a career soldier and with the 561st MP Company out of Ft Campbell, KY attached to the 101st. These guys are MP's that have a lot of capabilities - airassault, security details for supply details, VIP's, and combat of course. Pretty much teh Black Hawk Down type of job. While in Afghanistan last year they rode around looking for contact. Search for weapons, bad guys, provide medical, school supplies, humanitarian aid and train the local army and police. And combat...They will be doing pretty much the same thing in Tikrit. He has moved up and should be SSgt in two months. I pray he is safe and returns to us unharmed as well as his men, and his unit. These men and women are proud of what they do. They know their mission. Some of the finest people I've met. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers. I told him we'd send him a rod and reel so he could see what kind of fish are in the Tigris River. He laughed said, "Yeah, I can see me telling the guys to stop so I can get out and chunk and wind a bit to see if they are bitin'. COVER ME!"
I'll get his address as soon as he gets over there. Maybe we can all send the unit small stuff from time to time. I like to send stuff that is humorous and most times useful. They love to get ANYTHING from home. Pray for Jace. He's a much better man than I will ever be.

When they were in Afghanistan, I mailed over a HUGE box of Corn Flakes with a bottle of Grey Goose in it. He never got it and I got a letter of warning from Homeland Security. Kind of made me second guess doing it again. But there's got to be a way....
