So the wife mentioned it would be nice if we had a top for the boat to get out of the sun while fishing in the middle of the day. I know the fish don't bit that much during the heat of the day but we still try. Anyway I thought of an idea that works pretty well. I got a patio umbrella and cut down the mounting pipe to about 8" below the umbrella material when its lowered down as you will see in the pics. I then found a piece of pipe that was an 1 1/2" inside diameter so I could slip it over the back seat post. What I do is put the rear seat post in and slip the pipe over it. The pipe is long enough so that there is about a foot of it over the top of the seat post. I then slide the center pole of the umbrella in the pipe and have a nice large shade area in the rear of the boat and the good thing is you can get as large of an umbrella as you want. I know many of you might think its a bit crazy but hey if she is happy then fishing is great and she is worth it!

Like the old saying goes. If Momma aint happy aint no body happy! I wouldnt advise moving to a new fishing spot with that in the up position.

Oh no I crank it down and have a mounting place for it on the back of the boat on the lid for the access to the batteries and oil tank and pumps. I strap it down and put the pipe in a storage well and off I go..

Great idea! I am not sure who would think this is crazy, is there some rule that I am not aware of that you cant get comfortable on a bass boat? emoScratch

I did about the same thing except that I used pvc for the post to hold the umbrella and put a tee and some more pipe and made it so that the seat is still in place and the umbrella sits behind the seat. Shade really helps sitting out there crappie fishing. emoLaugh

Hey, I have done the same thing for about the last three years. Momma and Baby have to have shade. I don't mind the shade myself. I had some umbrella's that fit straight into the seat hole. Not pretty , but it works.</p>

i havn't done it, but the thought has crossed my mind on more than one occasion.... i might have to study this further.

I have one of those extendable beach umbrellas that you stick in the sand. When I move I close the umbrella, collapse the shaft and throw it in the rod locker

I have straps for mine on the rear lid where I access the battery and oil tank. I wrap a bungy cord around it and then strap it down. It sure came in handy today!

Nice job and great idea. Bass Pro Shop sells a solution to this problem that requires you to mount the umbrella to the back of your fishing seat. I like your solution better.

Yeah I saw that setup and it looks a little flimsy and I just dont like how it mounts. With mine you can select the size of umbrella you want to put back there.
