No need to apologize! Think the thread was pulled more for the responses towards your post. Welcome to the forum!

I thought it was fine, just would like to know what you put on the head? emoEvil I don't think the head by itself was catching those fish. What did you use on it? emoScratch emoSmile Jmax

Watermelon with red flake houdini and green pumpkin finesse on nickajack
and watermelon with red flake houdini and 10 inch black and blue ribbon tail tonight on chic.

I've been using the Choo Choo limiter hooks since they came out. They were the first GOOD shakyhead hooks offered in our area. Several manufacturers now make similar hooks, but I keep using the Choo Choo because it works. Try some Strike King finesse worms on one, it's softer and has great action when you shake it.

I don't think it was due to it being a Choo Choo lure endorsement.... we discuss Powerworms, Berkley, Norman, Strike King and our family favorite Dixie Jig Works. It was more than likely a few arses being arses. We need to hear what lure manufacturers you are having success with. I agree with Hl&s, that is a good rig, and is less expensive than the three pack of HIGH dollar ones at Sportsmans - like shakyheads are worth $6/pk. But then again if it catches fishes...

Thanks guys I never got to see all of the replies so i guess i am lucky. I agree we need to support our local lure makers. I think the limiter is the most durable i have used. I know it is not always the lure but sometimes the person using it. I am by no means an expert on any fishing tackle or techniques but i shore like to fish though when i am not on the football field.

I'm with you. That green pumpkin shakeyhead can be deadly on the nick in the spring. It is my favorite shakeyhead color down there. I buy my rigs at wally world though I suspect there are higher quality set-ups available. I'd love to know others are using.

With that little hook, how mant have you lost? If interested in a mamajama shakeyhead, let me know.

It ain't that little, Billy. Choo Choo uses the same head (I believe, anyway) for their Limiter as I do for the Dixie Jig Works ScrewIt & ShakeIt. I don't know which sizes of that Mustad they're using, but speaking for me, it's a 4/0 or 5/0 depending on the amount of lead under it. With 8lb copoly and a fairy wand, it gets awesome penetration with little to 0 straightening. That Mustad is a 42 gauge wire and is a great compromise between being lite enough to penetrate and heavy enough not to straighten - unless, of course, you're using a more stout combo than listed above. When I use to use shakeys with lighter wire, I'd straighten my share even with light gear.

Granted, your head is FAR more beefy, but it's not comparing apples to apples.

Thanks Rob. I know the 5/0 I used last year really didnt hook up all that well and stay hooked. (not sure what size but it never straightened) The 5/0 Owners Hook just seems to hold on better IMHO.

Never the less...shakeyheads can be deadly! I love throwing them but mainly in the winter and spring.

actually i catch more fish on Chick with a Shakey Head than anything else. Shakey, T-rig and C-rig is about all i will throw. and believe it or not, 3 of my 5 best fish this year so far have come on a green pumpkin shakey head. the other two on C-rigs

True enough Billy, but again, it's a different apple you are trying to compare. The widegap Owner Deep Throat you use has the 'notch' in the hook, which settles in a fish's lip/jaw and largely prevents them from throwing the bait. The Mustad (which I previously listed as a 42 gauge ... it's actually a 47 gauge) is a round bend and therefore allows a better opportunity for a thrown bait. The difference is the STYLE of fishing with relation to each head. Your head is a power fishing shakey head vs. mine & Choo Choo's which is still a finesse shakey ... which I prefer when the bite gets tough. Your's has more lead, which needs a measure of 'hold' for when that fish gets hooked up or they'll catapult the bait. If I'm power fishing deep, gimme a FB head jig any day of the week ... and my heads use a WG Gami that is comparable in shape and diameter to that Owner; effectively comparing apples to apples.

Bottom line is that the heavier that bait is, the greater the need for a WG hook.

Assuming Choo Choo is using the same Mustad as I am, it's a great hook for finesse heads. Excellent penetration, excellent landing ratio, and excellent durability.
