i am looking to buy a shaky head rod,can anyone give info on a good rod to buy.without having to spend $100+.also whats a good lenght and action.

How about $99? I've got Shimano's Compre and love it for finesse. I chose the 7' Medium with Fast action and the exposed blank.

thanks jason,i dont mind spending $100 if i have to to get a good rod,ive been using a 6'6 medium action but have been losing alot of fish,i feel like i need a rod with a little more backbone or maybe a 7 ft rod.i will check out the compre rods.

I use a 6'6" medium action and get excellent hook sets. I prefer the softer tip as I think the fish will not feel the resistance as quick and drop the worm. I was missing some hook ups when I first started but I switched to the choo choo limiter hooks and hook up ratio is now excellent.

were are you getting the choo choo hooks at,i still havnt found a lead head that im happy with, have you tried the shaky head on nickajack alot and if so have you had good reults,i used it alot in the winter and spring but the weeds are a problem now

R&R has been carrying the limiters. They're not the best looking head, usually a little thin on paint, but apparently the hook eye offset and the hook quality are great for shakyhead. My 2 sons use them also and they're not missing fish.

Nick has been really tough to shakyhead lately. The grass is everywhere and has limited areas for shakyheading. In the cave, at both corners of the fence has been somewhat productive. Along the bank, at right angles to I24, about half way down, there are some large rocks that barely stick above surface. They are in front of a rock wall. Casting a shakyhead on the rocks and than letting it freefall has been good for 2 or 3 fish every trip lately. My youngest son boated a nice 4/12 lb er just recently. It has been one of the last areas I can shakyhead close to a bank. Also the roadbed in the cave area has produced. I'm sure there are a lot of other areas but I'm still learning Nickagrass myself.

thanks hl&s,im off work tomarrow so i am going in the morning i will stop by r&r and pick up some of the jigs and give them a try.hopefully the morning will be better than the last couple of trips.thanks for the info and maybe ill see you on the lake.

I went to buy a shaky head rod the other day. Came out with a heavy action flipping stick. LOL. J/K. PM Freebird. He is a finesseman. He may have some ideas. Crod
