If you had to pick to fish shallow or deep for the year what would you do and why?

If you mean deep vs shallow as in offshore vs beating the bank, I'll take "deep".

from what ive seen over the past 2+yrs there's really no reason to fish deeper than 6-8' except in july and august(even then is questionable) but im still learning these grass lakes. THERE ARE ALWAYS FISH IN THE GRASS!! find the grass and youve found fish, just gotta figure out how to catch them.
