At Prentice cooper a change of heart got me to go at about 9:00AM in the thick fog. I could see about fifty feet max where I was so I sat on the ground right next to a deer crossing. I could hear deer but could not see squat. I was fed up with wasting time so I was going home about noon. I come out of the side road and head down Tower road... I then wondered if the fog is clear on the far end of the Mountain. ... What the hey, nothing better to do. So I turned around and headed back. About at the cemetery things start to look good.. So I go way on out to a favorite spot.

I had my backpack on and my Rifle sling over my shoulder. Being quiet as I near my spot and looking down to avoid snapping sticks ... "Boom!" About fifty feet in front of me a two hundred pound tree fell and scared the crap out of me... So I thought... It was a huge Buck that I had spooked and his legs had kicked out from under him as he tried to get up to run. It was him that had hit the ground like a ton of bricks... In a flash, he was up and over the edge as I stood there startled. I rapidly got into position for a shot as I scanned the area below me.. I saw nothing but he saw me.. After about five minutes He ran-a-snorting from right to left down the mountain. Shucks. I saw two Does after that on the brow but no Buck.

I stayed there until about 3:00PM and then returned to the first location where the fog had cleared. Just before dark a small Buck came out and I passed on him...

This Morning bound and determined, I was there waiting for Tangle-foot to show up. Just before noon the squirrels were going crazy below me to the right. The wind was passing from right to left and all was perfect. I heard him slowly working his way up the draw. With antlers brushing the dry brush and an occasional crunch. The best I could tell he was about sixty yards out and on a path to cross at my right side at the brow and up wind.. I glanced to reassure I had my backpack with my knives to field dress this huge Boy. He is mine all mine today... Now it was just a matter of time before he showed himself ........ OH Scheit! The wind just hit me in the back of the head and straight down the draw dead at the Buck. I held my breath to not allow any scent out. If this White-Oak Whiskey cover scent works now is when I need it most. It seemed like forever... All was quiet except for the many squirrels still giving the Buck Hell.... Then it happened ... He again Ran-a-snorting the exact path he had ran from right to left and down the mountain yesterday.... I will now tell you that The term Winds light and Variable is a Deer Hunters worst nightmare.. Today I did not stick around. I drove a 1/2 mile back down the road the way he ran and then I darted down the side of the mountain about a 1/3 of a mile down a second big draw so as to just maybe head him off... Sigh Nothing...

Okay... As a last resort I decided to go set up for the small buck I had seen late yesterday and take him, It was a bonus deer... well I sit enjoying this awesome day in the Mild outdoors and saw nothing... "That's Deer Hunting."

Ha! I know the guys that developed this White Oak Whiskey and there were all kinds of crazy stories and rumors while they were trying to market the stuff. Theres not much you can do when a buck gets directly downwind of you.

This one is true though there were no witnesses.
I've ben working my butt off all summer on two leases in N. Ala. Didn't fish all summer, ran the dozer, excavator, tractor and shovel.
My buddy Whole Wheat went to sit yesterday in a newly flooded field. Set the dekes and proceeded to turn to the woods and shake hands with his best friend.
He heard something and turned around to see four mallards land in the dekes.
His shot gun was leaned against the tree and his hands were full...........the ducks saw him and whoosh....
