I made a mistake and bought one of these things about three months ago. Since then I have been selling all of my other reels to upgrade to these. I always though the Daiwa zillions were the cats meow until I tried these. They are very smooth, have the friendliest backlash control around, and they palm really well. The reels are small but the spool is wider than most. To me that is important because if you do get a backlash it is easier to pick it out. I have never been a Shimano fan but these reels changed that easily. BTW, I have no affiliation with Shimano. Just wanted to share my experience.

so this is why you are selling all your other reels. Been wishing I had some extra money when you been getting rid of that older stuff. YOu have got rid of a lot. Maybe in 5 years when you get new ones, i'll take those you are just now buying off your hands.

Have you used any of the Curado D series? I've got several of the Curado 100D's and am curious how they compare??

They feel alot different in the hand. The casting is about the same. The E5 is the perfect cranking reel.

I think the E series smokes the D series in every category. Weight, comfort, casting ( distance and less backlashes).

Cant say much about the D-series but I have an E7 and liked it so much I bought the E5 for cranking. Smooth casting and user Friendly, they sit in the palm of your hand just right.

If you like Shimano baitcasters you'll equally love their spinning gear, just avoid the ones with the cranks that are split instead of solid. The Curado may make you laugh like Jimmy Houston

Just got an E5 I will give you a review once I use it. If it is as good as advertised, I will purchase an E7 or two.

Like was said above the E5 is a great deep cranking reel. For everything else stick with an E7 the are the shizzle.

If you dont mind getting them on ebay, i have bought an E5 for 140 and an E7 for 143. Both with free shipping.
