1. What are good ways to rig shiners?
- Hook style/size
- bobber/no bobber?
- lize size
2. Where can I purchace some big shiners?

I am wanting to carry my 7 months pregnant gal out and I want to catch some fish, but she don't really care for casting a whole lot..
Any help will be appreciated..
Thanks,
Channing

I use a 1/0 Gamakatsu circle (don't set the hook, let them take it a little and just reel into the fish) and ususally free line them around structrue. Bbass usually adds a split shot and does the same. No bobber. Hook them throught the lips/nose. Line on my reels is 4lb fluoro and 8lb Triline XL (which is getting upgraded to 6lb fluoro).

Jacks on Bonny Oaks (sort of across the street from Govenors dance club) and Hamiltons Sport Shop on Hwy 58 in Harrison carry the large shiners. Make sure you have an areator or they wont last long. I use a Rapala areator (about $6) in a 5 gallon bucket (about $3).

No need for a bobber, just 1. Free line or 2. put a 1/4 oz split-shot about 6-8 inches above your hook.

I have a split live well so I put my shiners on one side, fill it 1/2 way and recycle.

Back to the bobber method, IF you need to use one, try a small balloon. just blow it up to about 4 inches round, tie it off then tie it again about 5 to 6 feet about the sinker. When the fish hit, let them carry it for a few seconds then reel it in. What happens is the balloon will slip on the line. Bobbers will just stay put and make the fish not interested if it pulls it back to the top or has too much resistance.

I was shown that method for Chick last year for winter shiner fishing and it works wonderful!

If you ever need a 5 gallon plastic bucket, which all fishermen do, go to your local wallyworld and ask the clerk at the bakery dept. if they have any plastic buckets that cake icing comes in, they will give them to you free, they even wash them out for you.

Don't worry about the price of a bait tank. I am more concerned about the price of shiners. Is someone going to warn him about the price of Shiners at approximately $0.40 each. Five dozen is going to hit you for about $24.00. I know where there is a little pond with way too many stunned bream about 2" long. I think the next time I go it will be jigging spoons and grubs only or maybe some little bluegill.

Well he did ask how much they cost Liveliner. I figured it would be funnier to read that post after 24 bucks worth
