i have heard many of you guys use the term "shooting docks" what exactly does this mean. i first thought there were some duck hunters who could't spell ( just kidding). if any one can tell me what it means i am sure i would try it.

I'm far from an expert at it but I'll try to describe "Shooting docks" as best I can. Using a spinning outfit with a light (flexible) tip, grab the lure you're wanting to shoot, pull it back towards the butt of the rod, point the tip towards the spot you want to hit, and let the lure go. This is easier said than done because your holding the line against the rod with the other hand ( using 1 finger) and both must be released at the same time. It takes practice to get good at it. You can shoot grubs, tubes, small worms for bass and crappie.

i kind of thought that may have been the case, it sounds like a good way to break a rod or get a hook ran through your finger to me. thanks for the information, i may take one of my old ultralights with me tomorrow and give it a try.

Bassnbug,

One word of advice, keep the sharp part of the hook in front of your fingers, you will appreciate it later.emoLaugh

I saw that video at the BPS in Memphis a couple years ago. It caused me to buy a hundred of those roadrunner heads and a hundred of those umbrella bodies. I think I might have caught 3 fish on them in the last 2 years.emoUpsmile

This is a good video. I'm glad that he said to hold the jig by the head. Just make sure that the hook is turned up away from your fingers. You will never hook yourself if you do this. emoBigsmile emoGeezer
Not all docks hold crappie either. He did note that docks at the end of points, or near channels are best and that is exactly the spots to look for.

I have a zebco 33 on a light action baitcaster rod just for what I call skipping. I load the rod and hit the bar and release the lure under docks. Works just fine!!
