Dr Phillip and I got out this afternoon for a very short fishing trip. My first cast yielded a nice spotted bass. Second cast a very nice Crappie. Then nothing until we changed locations.

Total fish caught. 6 keeper crappie, 2 spotted bass, 1 small drum, 1 small bluegill, and 1 throwback crappie. I expected to catch more, but either the fish weren't very active in the area of the river that I was fishing or I didn't find a large school of active fish.

Most fish were caught on one of my favorite bluffs and the rest near the main river channel in 18 feet of water. Panfish assassins were responsible for every fish. I will probably go again in the morning and try a little longer. Hopefully a better report will be forthcoming.

Oh, BTW, the water temps were warmer than I thought they would be and the female crappie that I kept were buldging with eggs. If we get an extended warming trend, some of these fish will be thinking romantic thoughts. I would expect them to begin the long migration to the shallows and arrive there before long. 5 of the 6 keepers were slabs.

Oh, about the water temps. My bad. One unit gave a 48.1 and the other gave 50 degrees. The one that gave 50 degrees was calibrated about 1 year ago, but it might have drifted off a little. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

And that smallmouth is why I'm the drumking!

Wow 48 degree water is unbelievable, wish I could find that kind of water temp where i'm fishing. Anyway congrats on the drum lol, you need to come visit grasshopper if you want load up on the crappie.

the water temps were 48- 50 around the nuke plant saturday during the CBA,,,, above it was 38-40. the farther down you go down lake from the plant the more the water temp gets diluted. At the mouth of chesterfrost it was 41 i think.

the shad in the sloughs just below the plant are less than a foot deep!

Many more 60 degree nights and it will warm up fast.

I was thinking that it was probably Sequoyah that was warming the water but I didn't want to give away any of DK's info if he wasn't going to give it. I have not however thought that the plant would raise the temp of the water that much. The other temps that you talked about Fishheadspin were about what I would have expected with what they have been recently.

Yep, those temps were about 2 miles below the nuke plant. The water temp in Wolftever on Wednesday at mid-day was 45.

Any jigging spoon action?

No, I haven't done any of that lately. I want to go to the Riverpark and also to Watts Bar tailwaters. Just can't be in two places at the same time.
