Been out of town for a few days nursing a sick mom back to health. I read about Muskrat's new formula and just had to try it after I chased crappie for a couple of hours today. I only fished for 1.5 hours for catfish, but did have 5 bites, lost a really good fish at the boat. He came up from 42 feet of water. Lost another one and missed the other bites. Now I can't wait to try this formula on my favorite catfish bait which is medium sized shrimp.

The first couple of hours that I spent crappie fishing was fair. caught 13 total, but only 4 were keepers. I was using a new plastic bait that I purchased at SW the other day and of course had to color it up with spike-it. I think that the bait was called a hardhead or something like that. Looks almost like a tube only with a solid head. I dipped the head in lime green and the skirt in chartreuse. The crappie seemed to like it.emoAngel emoGeezer The crappie were 12-14 feet deep and I fished in Savannah creek near polo-dog's place. The catfish that I fished for was in the river channel on a portion of the river that I have never fished before which may explain why I didn't catch more fish. Or maybe my catfish feelers aren't calibrated yet. emoUpsmile

Glad to hear Mom's doing better. Just imagine how well those new crappie jigs might have worked if you hadn't "doctored" 'em.

Richard, I usually buy pearl or white soft plastics and then color them up in different ways. Perhaps all those fish would have been keepers had I not doctored them. Mom is doing much better. I spoke with her on the phone a while ago and she sounded much stronger. She is 83.emoAngel emoGeezer

I saw you out there DK but I decided to go shopping with the wife instead of bothering you. I haven't been able to spend much time with her in the last couple of weeks and it was good to just be together for a few hours. I did wonder how you were doing out there. It didn't look like you stayed very long from what I could see. I'm glad that the crappies are still there, I'll have to try them one of these days. Thanks again for the baits you left me that one day. Glad to hear that the family is getting better.

Thanks Polo, I didn't have much time to fish and I just wanted to keep a pulse on the Crappie. When I saw that most were short fish, I left. Ran up Woltever almost to the bridge, just looking at depths, water temps and so on. Didn't fish any up there because I wanted to try the catfish baits that Muskrat raved about on the river. All in all, it was a good short day. I just had to run my boat and have the wind blow threw my hair...errr, through my head.emoUpsmile emoGeezer
