Saturday-We started drifting the turbines and boated about 5 blues with the biggest around 12 lbs. Chris and Dylan were amazed with their light tackle battles. I quickly left though telling them I wanted to try to boat a monster. Now, we have names for every spot on the river, and I pulled up to EricM's spot. Technically, I found it, but he caught the first big one there. Boom, a rod goes down on a hard run. Dylan brings in a 23, and he is pumped. Based on info Tblegend gave me, I tried drifting some structure with no luck. I went to the next spot and anchored up. Dang little fish was all over the skipjack. Finally, after 10 minutes, it gets hooked. Wait a minute, it's not small? Chris is commenting on the forearms burning. A 49 comes to the boat. He might have mentioned that fish 100 times that day, maybe more. Downriver was blocked off, so we went home to eat and fall asleep.
Ready for a road trip, I headed to Guntersville. Ty pointed me in the right direction. The guys couldn't get over how pretty it was. A rod dives down, and it drops the bait. My big Nite Stick then loads up, and I know it's a man fish. Dylan has one and the rod is doubled down to where I know it isn't anywhere near less than 40. After some sore arms, I net a 57. Worth the road trip, thanks to Ty. We have been sharing information openly and man it has been fun. Happy dudes.
Sunday- we made a quick trip and put a few more small ones in the boat. I went home and caught some z's thinking about how our tough days are once in a lifetime for others. I have a new goal, I want to devote one day to only fishing under barges when it's sunny. The big dudes seem to be scattered, and you have to really stay after it right now. I like the challenge when it is a tad slow, as it forces us to catch fish in new places.
