Several have asked about pictures of different species and how to identify the species in SI images. Nothing beats understanding the seasonal patterns and how fish relate and where they live on the fishery but Side Imaging can help in locating and finding the species you are looking for. Here are images of Bass that should help in learning how to distinguish them when scanning for fish with your Humminbird. Couple things about Bass is sometimes that are single fish and sometimes they school in groups. It will he harder to locate the singles but normally when you do find them or the homes they can be some of the largest fish in the lake. Schools of Bass will be much easier to find are normally school at different seasons of the year like Winter and Summer and normally around structure. Bass relate to structure and seasonal habits can vary from fishery to fishery. Here are some images of Bass that I have collected. Hope they help.

Here's some singles that I have captured...Look at the size of these fish? These are normally trophy base that singulate themselves from others and live a solitary life in an area.

Bass's predator nature they do not like anything behind them...I know this because Skeeter Bass Boats did a study with a Texas University on livewell and fish care management. Bass were less stress when they vertically stacked or side by side then front to rear. Front to Rear they front bass kept circling to get behingd the other and stressed the fish due to their predator nature they want to attack the prey from behind in a forward motion. So you normally see bass in vertical or side beside schools but I have seen them play follow the leader too but normally this is when they move. To answer your question I've seen them stack horizontally and vertically.

Thanks! I'm like a sponge these days; soaking up facts and opinions whereever I can find them. The facts speak for themselves; the opinions need filtering.
