what is the very best place to mount one one a 1996 stratos 201 i was gonna put it under the pad near where the plug goes but didnt know if it would get interfearance from anything there? just got the SI unit today any tips for it would be good thanks.

depends on which model you go with. The Lowrance has a stand alone transducer for the Structure Scan and I had mine mounted on the back of the boat just above the pad. These are directional and if you don't mount them correctly the left and right on the side imaging will be wrong. So if your going to do it yourself then be sure you read the manuals and installation guides before you do it.

I placed mine under the first step on a 06 285xl stratos. You can mount it without the bracket too and you the option under the stucture scan menu to flip screen if needed.

for the humminbird models , the best place i have found is on the jack plate (if you have one ) . that keeps it out of the water , free from damage at speed, and still gives good imaging when you are idling around

i dont have a jake plate so it had to go with the transom mount. and i got another? will the 2d sonar work when your runnin with speed or do you have to use a high speed transducer too? if so how for does it have to be from the side image tranduser so the they wont interfear with eachother. thanks

I agree, that's where I bought mine and had them installed at.

It would also help if we knew what kind of unit you bought.

The Lowrance 2D transducer can be mounted using a marine based epoxy in the back of the boat if it's the "shoot thru the hull" type and it will work while you are running the boat. I think the max speed for the structure scan is 5 or 10 mph.

i got a humminbird 898c si i mounted the si transducer to the transome and it worked fine when i took it out today i had bought the high speed transducer to put on the transome too but didnt know if the the beams would cross each other and get feed back i had thought about a shoot thru but wanted one with temp to i know i have to buy a y cable to run both just dont know about the location and it i shoud just go with the through hull type and take the other back

+2 for Tom at Fish N Fun. They ordered my unit and installed for very little more than the cost of buying myself. They answered all my questions before I left and told me someone could ride out with me one day if needed for further assistance. Those guys are great!

I don't think I would mount both transducers to the back of the boat. I'm not sure how close or far apart they would have to be but I would take it back and get a shoot thru the hull for the 2D. Reason being, say you put it on the back of the boat and it causes interference and you have to move it. Now you have added holes in your boat and a used transducer that you will probably be stuck with. Just my two cents

i called tom at fish n fun earlier today and he told the i should go with the thur hull and i could just epoxy the high speed one i already had in there and where i should put it. thanks for all of yalls anwsers and replies.
