I have been reading the posts way too much. I wanted to be like you guys. I ran up the river and caught only Two. Went to DK's hole with TT-zero, Wolftever-zero. Then I finally went back to where I put in at Chester-Frost Bay-FortyFive(45+/-) crappie, one drum, ?? Yellow Stripe, Three LM Bass one of which was about 19".

Again I found the fish and bait balls with my side view sonar and it paid off. I talked with four other boaters in the bay that were trolling and they only had a couple crappie each. There was one gentleman who was trolling a big circle around me and was picking up a few but no big numbers. I explained to him what the crappie were doing and how I could see them. I told him the bait was scattered and moving around, There were Yellow Stripe up close to the surface with the baitfish and that the Crappie were under them closer to the bottom. I started pointing out to him where the bait was located and advised him that he was welcome to tag along near me. He did start picking up more and bigger Crappie. When I left he followed me to the ramp. I guess he figured that fishing blind was just not worth it. He ended up with Fourteen keepers.

Oh well it happens - - I caught my limit and was culling keepers saving the biggest fish. I kept Fourteen in my livewell so as to ba able to keep catching fish. Well I got confused and released One too many. I brought in only Fourteen out of at least two and a half limits of keepers.

Want to see pics? - - Later - - I'm going fishing right now.

Great report, Liveliner. Proves a point that Buck Perry made. "Fish neither move constantly nor consistently." You proved that by going to the places that were "hot" a day or so before and found that the fish weren't there. You had to use your own instincts and locate the fish for yourself. Way to go! I don't currently have a side finder, but I sure wish that I did. I used one a few years ago and it opened my eyes to the way Crappie fishing really is. I have a lying Hummingbird 565 on my trolling motor that I'm about to throw in the lake.emoGeezer

I'm interested in learning more about fish finders. I recently bought two books on the subject...both by Buck Taylor. I have his big one on depth finders...which mostly is about paper graph units and then I have the LCD revised edition to it but technology has changed considerably since those books were published.

Heck I can't even get mine to do right on my transom. I can't find the good angle for it. It will either draw good when I'm at an idle or barely moving then blank out when I put any throttle in it at all. Or I can angle it down and get it to sorta do better at higher speeds but around 20-30 MPH is all it can handle and it starts blanking again. After reaching into the water Saturday several times to adjust it one way or the other I was about ready to throw it in the lake too. The side view idea is very interesting. I've saw on the BFHP boards where those guys posted pictures of what things looked like with theirs and it was interesting.
