The wife and I are considering moving to the mountain. Does anyone have any experience towing up Roberts Mill Road?

It shouldn't be a problem going up but coming down will cost a lot of brake pads unless you use a lower gear coming down.

Roberts mill is not an option for towing up or down!

There are some tight and steep turns, I wouldn't want to drag a boat up and down it much.

I love Signal Mountain but Roberts Mill Road is terrible. Almost as bad as the W road.

I never thought it was that bad. I used to visit my buddy at the top who has the big canon at his driveway. You can get to the top from Taft Highway but then I haven't been on it in years. Had a buddy almost lose his leg there. He thought he could free whee his bicycle down it.

Depends what you're towing, and with what. A light aluminum boat being pulled by >V6? No problem -- unless it's just rained and you don't have any weight in your truck bed. Twice in the past week I've seen folks in pickups (not even towing!) get stuck at the first curve up from the bottom! A heavy fiberglass rig? No thanks, no matter what you're pulling with.

If you're a newbie that road goes up "Murder Mountain" where Frank Casteel killed three men on July 9, 1988 .</p>Even though many of us knew within hours what supposedly happened it took Nine years to convict Casteel and the whole story never really came out that I'm aware of.

I used to live in Boston Branch, subdivision at top of Roberts Mill, I towed a four wheeler trailer up and down Roberts Mill a few times and it was not fun. Personally I would not tow anything bigger. Also, worth knowing is Roberts Mill is usually one of the first roads closed and it washed out about 5 years or so ago and was closed several months. I loved the sense of community on Signal but Roberts Mill is not a great road.

I lived on Signal for 40 years from back when Sequoyah was being built. I've towed up and down "Falling Water" (Roberts Mill) many, many times without problem. I towed a single axle trailer with a ton on it without a problem with a pick up truck. You just have to use your head and not do stupid things. Someone did mention the first curve at the bottom, almost a 180* turn and steep. Hard to hit with speed but not easy to navigate when the road is wet. Only thing to remember is length must be considered!
