With the full moon coming on it was a good event. Started out slow for me. The bait and mid week bass action was just not there. Fished 1-7 ft all day. Key for me was willow grass (duckweed), and wood/brush. 1st fish came from a bed in a grass pocket. 2nd was a 3.5 (at least), on a square bill on a 2' flat that jumped off! No one around to hear me yell out a dirty 2 word phrase! How does that happen using Mustad Triple Grip KVD treble hooks?! Caught 7 fish on it but the one I really needed jumped me! Fish 3 was a few mins later on a spinner bait on a weed edge in a pocket. It was a long skinny male over 4#. Searched for a female but zero. Went deeper and fished channel edges with hard baits and got into several with a 1/2 oz trap that included 2 more small keepers. One was a 2.60 that was tongue hooked. A bleeder that didn't recover so, since I had 4 fish I threw it out while it was still floating sideways. fished several hours hitting my best stuff and only caught slicks. At 1pm went back to where I caught the 4 thinking- Maybe another good one in the area? On my 3rd cast- Wham! a 5.35 Female off the same exact spot! She was marked up and fat. Didn't see the bed tho. The next hour was a fruitless attempt for an upgrade to make up for the 4 that jumped me. That fish was the demise of the day for me that cost me the win or at least 2nd place. Still, it was a great day out and I think I finished 5th or 6th. Great fishing with the CFF and thanks for the team effort. Probably won't see me till September as I don't night fish but...
