Got in some practice last week with lean results so I abandoned anything new and went to my normal stuff. 1st stop 12 FOW Carolina rig. 8 casts and nothing. Moved to spot 2- had 3 keepers in 5 casts with a Carolina rig Senko in 6 FOW. . Stayed on them too long and had only one more small one that didn't cull. Guess I cleaned them out. Its about 8:30 and I'm trolling up to a waypoint to line up a cast and here comes a pontoon blazing out of a pocket and right across my juice. I got quite p'd off but what happened was in my favor. Pods of bait got agitated on my hole just when I fired the cast- my lipless bait flew about 40 yards on target and after about 3 or 4 cranks of the reel a 4.60 slammed the slack out of my line and I heard my reel make that familiar 'Zeet, Zeet' sound!
Got her netted but had a bleeder. Lucky I had just broke out a diet coke and that foamy c02 quickly stopped the bleeding. There was a 3 lb plus upgrade! Caught several other fish nearby but no culls. around 10, made a run up river and fished wood and grass in 1-5 FOW. Caught a few keepers on a spinner bait in a foot of water on wood and had 1 upgrade of about 4 oz. then it really slowed down and the rest of the day was a fruitless attempt to catch that one more good one. Ended up with about 12 fish that included 8 keepers. Tied the Webbs for 3rd and had a great time. Grats to all and thanks to the committee for your efforts and kindness.

Ok I’m a noobie you’re going to have to explain the coke thing. Do you pour it on the fish to make it stop bleeding?

Yes, some guys use Mtn Dew and sprite. All the same as the Co2 is key. It works real fast and will keep them from bleeding out and dying as well as keeping blood out of your livewell water which can also adversly effect the other fish.

Saw Brian Thrift using Mtn Dew a few weeks ago. Researched it and they were saying citric acid was the key. Have not had a chance to try it but carry a Mtn Dew for sure now.
