Pleasure and Pain; The pleasure; Fished all day for only 2 shorties and at 1:30, Wham! My 7.71 Big Fish. Was gonna load out at 1p I was so disgusted but kept slugging it out with big bass in mind and kept thinking about how I been tx fishing the Chick for 4 yrs now but, big bass has eluded me. Finally nailed it. Plus, had Jacob Wheeler take my pics of the fish. The pain; I'd read and commented about the hazard near the power plant- here on the forums. Well guess what? Wham! I found it. Hunter Slough channel. Its an old light marker tower that was cut down and left there. Who would do that? I'm usually very accurate with my mapping when I run in and out of Hunter but was a bit off to one side off this time. Now it cost me a prop and a gearcase. Wiped out my Tempest 25, bent the propshaft and smashed in my low water pick-ups. Somehow the big fish eases the pain. Caught it on a War Eagle Spinner bait in 7 ft of water. Lit a fire under my arse real fast and scrambled like hell for a couple more keepers but, that was my only keeper of the day. I'm planning to put the Triton 21 to rest and use my 16' Quachita shallow draft rig until the lake comes up next season. Too much risk in low water here for expensive equipment.

Sorry to hear about your battle with the cut off tower I was out yesterday and got skunked. My prop found the bottom a couple of times as well but no harm no foul Everyone be safe out there!

Good on the fish and sorry about the hazard!! So where is this slough?? Is it the one before the Nuc plant heading up the lake with the ski jump in the back of it??

Thanks. Its the one below chickagambi (ski ramp cove). Its the no wake slough.

Is the hazard the green channel marker buoy?

Assuming it is out on the channel near what I have always called the witches ditch?

It was out of the water the other day needs to be marked it is out in the channel just above the green bouy I will try and find something g to mark it with may try and find old orange life vest and tie it to it or something

Would be awesome if someone can get it marked!! We found a duck blind when the lake was a full pool..T-post about 3-4 inches under water...was just idling, but still left plenty of damage.

I tried to find it and mark it today but no luck. I idled up and down that area for a half hour with no luck. Either the coast guard removed it or it is far enough under to make it impossible to see unless you are right on it.

Congrats on the fish and sorry about the lower unit. My dad and I have lost a prop blade once and had the entire prop shaft fall out of the motor before at Allatoona in Ga and that is a pretty safe lake. I grew up fishing Weiss, I have seen more bent props and damaged lower units than I care to admit.

Anyone have any gps coordinates for it? Busted lower and prop, bent prop, and a couple run ins with bottom already?

The hazard silvertalon hit was the old orange tva marker that was cut off bout two foot high off bottom . It is on lower side of entrance to hunter slough . Bouy just underwater is right in the middle of mouth of witches ditch right above hunter slough.
