Can someone help me with the name of some good smallmouth creeks that are wadable and not on private property in the Manchester or Mcminnville area? I live and fish in the Nashville area but really enjoy the scenery that a new place provides but don't want to make landowners mad in my pursuit. Any help would be appreciated.

Check into the lower Elk River near the Al/TN line. Had a buddy that used to wade there with his father years ago. The "Old Stone Fort" in manchester(Duck River) looks good too but I never fished. I remember people accessing it there at the park around the 2 mill dams located there. The best creek I ever waded for Smallies is the Smith Fork, its located off HWY 70 near the town of Liberty (NW of woodbury). Good Luck

Garrison Creek near War Trace is a great wade. I havent waded it in a few years but there are Smallies in the 2-3 pound class as well as Spots and Largemouth. But the best bite in the Creek are the bigger than average Black Perch or Red Eyes, whatever you want to call them. Like Churly said, the Elk is also a great place to wade. There are several places on the Elk that you can start from. I have waded the Duck River, its pretty good but it gets quite a bit of waders in it. Another pretty good place, and I cant remember the name of the Creek, is on the way towards Viola from McMinnville. Hwy. 127 crosses the Creek. I use to catch Crawdads for bait, they worked great. The 2" ones are perfect.

Hey Churly is there a place to park to wade Smith Fork and it easily accessible? I'm looking for small creek action this sounds like a nice spot but would like to be a little familiar with it before i head up from Chattanooga

We used to park on the side of the road just past where HWY 70 crosses the creek then we just walked down the rip rap and waded the mile or so below there. the fishing is tough if there isn't much water in the creek. Although we have had rain today, its been dry. Best time to for me was between deer and turkey season when it was cool, then again after turkey season till june. Anything that looks like a crawfish would get bit. If you go, let us know how it goes.

They are all on private property, most have easy to obtain access by asking permission.

Make darn sure that if the stream is stocked with trout any time during the year that you have a trout stamp, even if you are not fishing for them, or it could cost you a big fine, and if they want to can confiscate your equipment and even your vehicle !!!!!!!!!!
