Pretty chilly morning to start. Bundled up for a short run. Neither Mike nor I scouted much, so it was a new game. First stop Mike worked surface lures, I fished the bottom. Worked our way down. I took out a jerk bait and fired up to the shore. Felt a bump, thought it was a rock, I was so shallow. Felt weight and the line moved off. Had a short fight with a good size drum, wearing all three trebles. It is a PIA to try to remove with hands so cold you can barely feel anything. Had to dip the rod in the water to get the ice off the guides. Kept moving an a bass hit the top water. Got it next to the boat, and came off. Was pale, looked like just came from deeper water. Made a move , we got a couple of hits, no fish. Moved again, fished some docks and deeper water. Nothing. Ran back to spot one to finish. No fish. Ended with a drum, and lost bass. Nothing to weigh in. Water was high 30's to start, high 40's when we quit. Threw jigs, jerkbaits, square bills, chatterbait, carolina rig, shakey, finesse worm.
Thanks to the committee on a day when the ink in the pen was freezing. Glad to see some of my CFF buddies after a winter layoff.
