Mike and I headed downstream for the day. Current was running hard, water around 75. Stopped at our first spot and caught a bunch of fish, all but one spot was short, and that was a line burner. Made a couple of moves looking for bigger fish. Tried some mats, had activity, but no takers. Went to a place with similar structure and cover as our first spot, proceeded to catch a limit, and cull. Still all small fish. Ran to the dam, checked a couple of places, both deep and shallow with no takers. Ran up to Mullins Cove area, tried to fish the channel , current was too much.
Ran back south, and slung a blade by Hales Bar. Spent the next two and half hours puttering back to Sullivans at about 4 mph, with a shaking motor, whole boat vibrated. Weighted three small spots, less than 3# total.
Best catching was with the boat in 15-20 fow, in eddies or where there was a current break from structure. Cast toward the bank, usually with rocky bottom. Caught spots, 25+, largemouth and a smallmouth. Used a Bomber Fat Free Shad, citrus, size 6, worms, chatterbait, Senko and jigs. Jigs did all the damage.
A big THANK YOU to Jerry ( Strato G) for a ride back to weigh in, even though the sack was puny. We appreciate the courtesy. Weigh in finished up about the time Mike got around the last bend and made it back to Sullivans. Loaded and headed to the house. Really needed that first beer.
Thanks to the committee for another tournament. Congrats to Billy and Steven for the AOY. See ya'll at the classic.
