Got to go for a couple of hours yesterday on tellico lake. Had a great day in the rain. Caught 8 smallies and a couple of spots . Caught the fish in about 15 ft water. It was clear and about 48 degrees. I used soft plastics and jigging spoons. Here is a pic of the biggest.

VERY nice fish. Need to get out on the channel and try for those brown fish more. Fished the creeks in the mid-section of Tellico Saturday and Sunday. Largemouth continue to be available on the shakey worm and finesse jig in 10-15'. Also had one decent keeper Sunday slow rolling the SB in warming water in the back of the creek. Temps ranged from 48-52. Be careful out there.

It fell for a hula jig or what you would call a spider jig. The fish was just over 22" and I didn't have any scales to weigh it on. I would say it was 5 pounds or so. When I am just fishing for fun, I try to get the fish back as soon as I catch it.

That's a whopper! Just wondering since I've never caught one like that ... are regular fishing folks bound to catch one like that sooner or later?

I'm 50, the biggest fish I ever caught probably wasn't more than 3 pounds and I've been fishing on and off all my life. I only hope someday to be in the right place someday to catch something that fantastic. My most unique fish I've ever caught was a flounder. That is a weird looking fish for sure!

I fished Tellico on 1/14 for smallies too. I fished the south side of Jackson Bend Island (between Bakers Creek and Lotterdale Cove). Caught 2 fish, both about 2.5 pounds. Got 1 on a drop shot and 1 on a green grub. Both in 15 - 20 feet of water. I marked alot of suspended fish on my graph but could not get them to bite. Both of the fish I caught hit very gently. Nice to see some Tellico anglers here. I'm new to the CFF. I work in Greenback about 2 miles from the lake and I'm always looking for new friends to fish with so if anyone wants to go just holler.

Fisherpal2k- I was on the dock side. Yeah - I believe anyone can catch big fish if they put in the time and effort. I beleive that luck is a big part and I believe you can better your luck with skill. Skill = Right place at the right time+ right bait + Right equipment+right season to where your fishing. Live bait is always an option for catching big fish or finding the fish. Going alot always increase your odds. I try to fish at least 3 to 4 days a week. Being a member on this site will definatly increase your odds on catching fish. There are some really educated fisherman around here. These guys really know how to sniff out a big bite every now and again. Try to fish with different people and learn different approaches. And always thank the Good Lord for every oppurtunity you have to get on the water and try to catch a few.

Nice fish Jim. Are the smallies relating close to the channel there or are they on flats near the channel? Was there much cover in the area? How deep is the channel in the area where you are catching fish? Just curious so if I get out I can translate to fishing for them down here on Chickamauga.
