Since I had an appointment with my oral surgeon this morning for a checkup, I didn't make any plans with anyone to go fishing. It was so nice and overcast that I couldn't stand it! However all my usual fishing buddies were out of pocket, so I wound up going by myself. This is the third time I've done this since I joined the forum.
I claimed I didn't fish alone. I guess we can kiss that idea goodbye!
I launched in Soddy Creek about 11:30 and experimented around hunting drops with brush or rocks! Tried a couple of other spots where Fat Albert & I caught some last week. Caught one slick. Went out to the river, saw two cruisers coming downstream , turned around and went to the back of Soddy Creek. From 1:30 til 4:30 I caught about 30 bass, 2 of which were keepers. 2 lb 4 oz & 3 lb 9 oz. I finally caught some fish on a chatter-bait! In fact, I caught most of my fish on a chatter-bait. It was white with a chartruese Zoom trailer. I threw away that wimpy trailer that came with it. I even switched to a regular white & chartruese SB to see if it made a difference. I also tried a 100 bandit. Nada, Ziltch, back to the chatter-bait.
All fish were caught in 3-5 feet over patchy milfoil. When the chatterbait bite quit, I went back over the area with a craw tube. No luck. While I was catching bass on the chatterbait, big bream were taking swipes at the lure on almost every cast. So, for the last little while I fished, I used a 3" smoke & sparkle minnow on my ultralight rod.
I'm gonna tear up the bream, right? Wrong! I catch 5 or 6 more 12-13" bass. A lot of fun on the ultralight.
Today was the first time someone yelled "MadBomber" at me. Turned out it was a former coworker. I didn't know he was a member. He goes by "Beetlespin".
I'm having so much fun, I can hardly stand it!
Yes, I know it looks like I took the fish home. I forgot my camera. I took her picture and put her back where I found her.
