I need a new soleniod switch for my boat motor. A parts salesman at an auto parts store had one that looked just like the bad one that I have.I started to buy it (12.95).Better find out if it is the same or if I should order one for my evinrude.(30.00)Thanks for any advice or help

I forgot to mention
older motor 1980 75hp evinrude (this is the first time I`ve had any trouble from this motor, really dependable)

The autoparts store has the same function just it is made out of a different material. It will work, just hasn't been approved for marine use. There are 2 types: external ground and internal ground. Just have to make sure you have the one with 4 post and not 3. It is your choice. I have seen may "auto parts store" ones on boats with out issue. With that said, I am not telling you yes or no. Just sharing what I have seen. I probably have one that I will GIVE you if you want to take a road trip. I am in dunlap and not sure where you are at.

I would agree with wrechin, same thing just not approved for marine. Thats what I found out when I replaced spark plug cables. As far as the starter solenoid, i'd go with the auto parts one, don't see why it would make a difference.

Tyler,
Next time you change the wires on that inline..I got a spool of the wire and I make them. They are like $18 a wire from merc and only a few $$$ to make.

I just can't say go with the parts store one. Most electronics for boats are sealed and marine approved. If the solenoid get fuel vapor in it and goes boom then he comes back on me. Never seen it happen or heard of it, just a chance. The cowling is full of vapors and there is like a .00001 % chance, but never the less a chance. I have seen plenty of them on boats.

Bought one at napa.
Thanks for the offer (wrenchin) I live in Fort Oglethorpe, and many thanks for you guys opinons
