Watched a boat yesterday..running wide open in the channel, that boat turned and went into a slough that I know is shallow, really shallow!

The driver never let out of the throttle either..I was thinking oh man this is going to be bad. I guess he knew that creek channel very well, and new where to run to stay in it.

My hat is off to all yall that know this lake waay better than i do! emoWorthy haha

Do yall just use your graphs to chart/plot navigation routes in your GPS? I think that would be the only way I would zip into a slough like that .

A lot of us use memory. lol Time on the water makes it a lot safer to do stuff like that.

I'll second what Derek said being on the lake 2-3 times a week helps along with either having a navionics or lakemaster card in your unit. With the lake being 4-6 ft down it makes it hairy sometimes getting into pockets and creeks.

I have a Lowrance HDS 8, and it has a topo map of Chick, but it doesn't have a card in it. I want to get one for sure.

emoLaugh I like those answers. emoBigsmile But let me also note we keep the local prop shops going strong. emoTongue Jmax

Either they know the lake or they REALLY REALLY know their insurance/repair shop lol... On high performance boats I know they can run in 10" of water wide open and have great water pressure (I had high performance Bullet and engine). I'm not sure if they had a high performance boat but I agree with everyone... It is 99% experience and %1 electronics because running even 55-65 mph it's best to keep your eyes on the water than on a computer screen most of the time. It's complicated though because everyone drives a boat differently. Heck, I remember when I went to Carters lake (deepest lake in Georgia) for the first time I drove around that place so slow I would of got passed by a canoe. But after a few visits it was pedal to the floor.

Humminbird and Lakemaster! "Water level offset" and "shallow water highlight" Stay out of the red and hammer down!

That's pretty much it for me...

haha hammer down..i like that BRamsey. The water level offset and shallow water highlight features sound pretty interesting..and I bet for tournament fishing..you don't want to waste time getting to your spots. Makes sense. I know I spent 30 mins trolling back in that same slough..just to be carefull.

I think I was just really impressed to see that kind of drivin/pilotin/nav skillz.

Speaking of prop shops..I had only done business with B. Eaves. He had a shop in Sale Creek at one time. Anyone got any info?

This may make you feel a little safer on Carter's, It's the deepest man made lake east of the Mississippi.
