Looks like a good deal! Let us know how well of a product it is if you get it. I'd like to know how hard it is to install all the GPS and stuff, does anyone know?

JUST LIKE INSTALLING A RADIO...FOLLOW THE WIRING INSTRUCTIONS...SOME GO STRAIGHT TO BATTERY TERMINALS...TEMPORARY MOUNT THE PUCK TILL YOUR SURE IT GETTING A GOOD SIGNAL....SOME HAVE BUILT IN PUCKS NOW TOO...FAIRLY SIMPLE !

Ain't no harder than hooking up your sonar. If you have a GPS unit with internal antenna it is the same. If your unit uses an external antenna then you will need to mount your antenna in clear view of the sky. Turn it on and it will find itself and set itself up for you. Most are very simple to use the basics. It is a fun gadget that you can play with and learn features that will help you in ways that is hard to imagine. I can not leave home without mine.

I dont now about the 500 series. I have the 787c2 and love it. Are u using this on the console or bow? If console I would save a little more and get a 700 series or Matrix. There are so many advantages in these 2 models. More upgrade cappability. And color helps me alot. I bought mine on ebay for $600. What ever you decide, humming bird makes a good product. I would goto the Huminbird website and review all there products and the upgrade capability before deciding. If you havent already done so. Good Luck with it.

Oh yea. Hooking them up is a breeze. Ihave never done and it took me two hours maybe, with an external antenna. I ran mine to my to my power switch. If I did it over again. I would run to a battery.

I'm a firm beliver in "if it sounds to good to be true, it probably not" but this certainly seems to be a pretty good unit. The two factors I look at are power, which in this unit is 2000 peak to peak and the other factor is screen resolution. This unit has 640 verticle pixel for a 5" screen which is very good. I think the main reason for the lower price is the fact it's not a color unit. It seems everyone now a days wants a color graph but for me personally I've not been able to justify the price difference.

Thank you all. I guess I just need to figure out if I can plug in the hotmaps and different cards into the unit. If I can do that I will purchase it. There are several on Ebay for about the same price.

According to the site you linked to your thread, it shows it will accept the hotmaps.

I guess i am going to purchase this product. I called Hummingbird and talked to them. It does take the gold pr premium hotmap cards but not the classic or platinum. From what I understand this is their best base product the only differences (well a couple) when you start to go up in price is the screen size and color vs. b/w. For the tracker, this will be just fine. I guess I have to keep the boat now!

I do like the B/W screen. The greyscale on the B/W screen is very sharp and I think you be very pleased. I had a B/W Lowrance big screen before I upgraded to a GPS with Blue charts.

Do you all believe that getting the 2007 version of hotmaps will be worth the extra 50$ as opposed to the 2006 version? I guess they have added more lakes but im only going to be in the chick or on Norris. I would think that the 06 version should be fine? Do you all know any differences I may miss out on?

I've been eye balling the new Hummingbird 987c SI Combo unit. If it says it will do what Hummingbird says it will do what a fabulous unit. I currently have a Lowrance LCX15MT with GPS and I like the unit very well but just looking at what humming bird has with this new unit I feel like mine is obsolete compared to this unit. It will actually show you pictures of the bottom like a photo. The detail is so much greater than any unit out there currently. Does anyone have the Hummingbird 987c SI Combo unit on their boats? It shows standing timber, bait fish, rock surfaces etc etc with such detail. Go to Hummingbird's web site and check it out. It's got me salavating right now for a new fish finding unit.

Thanks but that is about twice as much as I want to spend. For 350 with shipping I think im getting a solid product. Ill let you all know. I missed the shipment today, ill have it this weekend to install.

Rrigsby came over last night and helped me put the new unit on the boat. Looks real purty up there. Thanks again Ryan for helping me out on that! The GPS was able to locate my boat inside my garage and showed me off to the side of the lake where my house is. Pretty neat. im going to work from "home" Thursday and get out and try to plot some points and maybe find some new spots depending on the weather. For the price I was impressed. I hope that it graphs as well as the GPS worked.

I just bought the hotmaps East off of Ebay for 100$ with shipping. I got the 06 version as the 07 version is about 50$ more and wouldnt help me for what ill be using it for.
