Yeah buddy. Surf fishing on the SC coast is fun. Occasionally you may get into blues or other surf running fish but there are always Whiting, Croakers and Spots to be caught. The ultimate bait is "Blood Worms". Use a small Circle or Kayle hook and you only need to tip the hook with about a 1/4" piece of worm. Shrimp are nice but I prefer to not use them. Way too easy to loose them to bait stealers and too expensive to loose at that rate. I will get small Squid and cut it so as to have a piece of bait about the size of a marble. You can generally catch all you want on the squid but if it gets slow, Tip your squid with a spec of blood worm. Take along some sharpened 1 1/2" pvc sand spikes.

There are other things you can do like catch fiddler crabs and finger sized mussels and fish around piers and jettys.

Have fun. Say Hello to my sister who lives in Myrtle Beach.

Each day when you get finished fishing be sure to rince your equipment in freshwater. If you leave the salt on your stuff it will be ruined.

Great Idea...WD40 is fish oil and makes a good fish attractant also. On my big Shark reels, I will strip off about 600 yards of line and start coating the line from there out. It makes your line float better plus it protects your spool from corrosian. Spray your line too.

Still rince your stuff.

Be sure to take pics and give us a report.

One more thing. Walk up and/or down the beach and look for riptide areas. That is where the tide breaks differently and draws the sand back out a little faster than the rest of the areas. Look for an extreme amount of pebbles and shells in the surf line and a small cut or ditch in the sand in the water. The water will generally be a little deper there. That is where you will find big numbers of good fish. Watch for bait fish busting out of the water. If you do have a bigger rod ready with a bigger bait like a 4" to 6" baitfish. Cast it right in the front edge of the bait and hold on. If you see big schooling fish, you can usually always catch most on a big spoon if you do not have bait fish. One of your small spots is a good bait for big Jacks. You are not allowed to target Sharks, however if you are baited with big cut bait most likely you will catch them. Catch and release. Don't hurt my lettle Shark buddies.

I would strongly recommend that you get the regs and read them and keep them with for referance.

Have fun and good luck.
