spawn done?

Hi everyone,

After a disasterous trip to Guntersville two weeks ago, I'm taking my boss fishing again this week but this time on Chick. Hoping for better results

It was hard to tell at Guntersville if they spawned or not, and we were there a few days before the full moon which is typically prime time for that lake. When I was last at Chick, new moon in early april, we caught some good females that were obviously spawned with bloody tails. Thinking that may have been the first wave

Any insights into the stage of the bass at Chick; spawn, post-spawn, pre-summer?

Trying to figure out where I might start and how I may fish until we can get a few bites to develop a game plan for the day.

I was at Guntersville this past weekend and everyone said they were spawned out.... then a guy shows up at weigh in with almost 30lbs of big belly females...

I remember a couple of years ago during the Elite tournament one of the pros caught a big female on the bed in June. Who knows....

I fished somewhat deep this past weekend and did great. I caught all my keepers in about 30 foot of water. I found couple good schools. I would be as bold to say that on chickamauga that they are way deeper into the spawn than Guntersville if not already "mostly" over with. It's all subjective though... You are going to see a lot of different opinions. Personally, If I was going fishing this weekend I would fish post spawn tactics... Yes... I know the bass are cold blooded species.... But much larger fish I would assume thermoregulate better, and would lay there eggs sooner. I have many reasons but hopefully that one makes sense.

With the amount of grass we have accumulated over the years due to not spraying it and with the bluegill spawning on the full moons, I see no reason for the fish to really never leave far from the bank all year. They may not be spawning but won't leave if there's plenty of food from the bluegill spawn

Spawn here will last into June. The big push is always April but some will be still in it now and next month.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I agree, the grass keeps the closer to the bank and agree with lafae7 that the bigger ones spawn first.

My boss isn't much of a bass angler, getting a bunch of 2-3lbers would make his day! Think I'll start shallow and take it from there and I'll be sure to report.

i was bowfishing last Friday night 4/29/16 around Armstrong ferry. I could not tell you the amount of bass I saw in under 2 feet of water. In the 1.5 hrs I was bowfishing the bass to carp ratio was at least 75 to 1 every piece of structure, cypress tree, tires all had fish on them. we only shot 1 carp. I saw some very large bass . hope this might help you guys

That sounds awesome... Have You ever tried sight fishing at night for the bass? I wonder if they'll bite.

Honestly I think a lot of those bass like to get in there and spawn at night. No where near as much pressure on them.

Not on Chick but I caught some females still full of eggs yesterday in a private lake. Surprised me with the water temps 76-77 degrees. I figured they were surely done in that lake.
