I was going down the lake today runnin around 65, when i noticed the speedometer all of a sudden dropped first down to around 40 then 30, then it dropped all the way to 0, now the highest it will go to is around 10 to 15 mph, I know there is a sensor or something mounted somewhere on the boat but i don't see it anywhere, just curious if i am on the right track or if some one might know where to look, and if that is my problem, because the speedometer was just changed out last year, by the previous owner

What kind of motor? Does it have an external sensor attached to the back of the boat? My Yamaha engine has a "nick" on the front of the shaft....sometimes, just hitting a stick, etc...it will become clogged. I usually take a small nail and clean it out. I used to use a "ice-pick".....whens the last time...you saw one of those? emoLaugh

ok, Thanks Buzz, I found the nick that you were talking about, and you were right, it was stopped up about an inch deep, cleaned it all out and got water dripping out now, could not find an ice pick so I just had to use a drill bit,Thanks again

yeah, i got the speedometer working good again, but i do need to check it against a GPS just to see how close it is, thanks to the quick responses on here, i had it fixed quick, this is a great place
